"It's a great help. I'm not used to... getting my hands dirty. I didn't think I would make such a mess, as it turns out baking is much harder than television show lead you to believe." It wasn't surprising coming from a woman who had been born to privilege, and then given title and rank at such a young age.
"Thank you. For helping me." The all elusive show of gratitude, a rare feat indeed from the Queen of Axis.
Haman went to the sink and began attempting to wash the dishes. Hey, this wasn't so hard!

"Everyone should get their hands dirty every once in a while. You know the captain of the Crossbone Vanguard was a baker before she took charge? She still makes bread for us every once in a while."

Haman didn't much like some young kid telling her what she should and shouldn't be doing with her life, but she was in to good a mood to respond back sharply.
"With this much mess to clean up, I don't think I'll be trying to bake again any time soon. Some women where just not made for domestication." Which was to say Haman was far to used to having a chef, and a staff to take care of these things for her. None of them would ever believe this if they ever heard about it.

Damn his naturally youthful face, it made it hard to get taken seriously sometimes.

"Well, maybe baking isn't for everyone. At least you can say you tried it, though."

"Indeed. And in this case, I think trying will be enough. Mineva is young, but she knows I'm no cook, and is certain to appreciate the gesture. On the upside," Gotta give em an upside! "The cake tastes really good. I was pretty surprised with myself. Granted, it took me three tries to get one that was editable, but..." Haman laughed aloud, grinning in a way that was very much unlike her.
She was drying dishes and putting them away as they talked, it was always refreshing to get to talk with people who didn't fear or revere her for her station and title. One of the many perks of residing on the Chalice and not Axis.
"Did your mother make cakes for you on your birthday, when you where a child?"

What can he say? It comes with the territory of being a pilot of an experimental prototype and fighting an evil empire. Like two thirds of the rest of the ship.

"She normally bought them from a store. She wasn't much of a cook."

"Well, at least I'm not the only one who can't cook! I was starting to wonder if cooking was some hard wired skill that came with motherhood, but apparently not." Haman smiled and laughed, maybe she was expecting to much of herself in all of this.
"My mother never cooked, she never had to though." Having a powerful general as a father had it's perks in a monarchy after all.
"It's nice though, no one would had even let me in the kitchen in Axis! Being here has it's perks." She looked over at him with a little smirk. The way people spoke to her, it was what she liked the most about the Chalice, all the pomp and presentation was lost here, and most of the time she just felt like a woman, not like a powerful political figure.

Kincaid new she was important in the political world, of course. But then, he had never had much respect for aristocracy.

"Sounds like you liked the option of cooking more than the actual cooking itself."

"That could be. 'The grass is always greener on the other Side', isn't that what they say?" An expression used surprisingly often in the colonies, but only because of the double meaning it held. "I guess it can be true about many things." Haman rinsed her hands clean and put the last of the dishes in the rack to dry. It had been a long time since Haman herself washed a dish! Better enjoy this view why you can, no one is going to believe you!
"Wow, it would have taken me an hour to do that! You're really quick with that mop!"

He finished up and stuck the mop back in its bucket, then wiped his forehead off.

"Everyone in the Vanguard takes turns at every duty. There's not enough manpower for people to turn their noses up at any kind of work."

Haman wondered how many of her own people did that? She only knew the floor got clean, she had never really thought about how it was done, or who did it.

"Well, at least you where well trained for it." She laughed as it that very thought was funny too. As she wiped down the last of the counter tops, the kitchen seemed to sparkle again. That nice military clean. Haman was impressed with herself.
"That wasn't so bad at all, actually. thanks for helping out, made this go twice as fast."

"Sure thing. Though next time you might want to consider an apron."

Presumably, Haman herself was not spared from the flour everywhere rule. Fortunately that stuff washes out.

"What?" Haman looked down at her tunic now that he said it, and sure enough there was flour all over it, and her cheeks, and even in her hair a little bit. She picked up a shiney spoon and use it as a mirror.
"Ah! I look terrible! I'll have to go clean up before the party starts!" Haman was glad the kitchen was clean again, not it was time to get herself clean.
"I'll have to excuse myself, and I apologize, but being the Regent mean's you're always on display. I hope you'll come to Mineva's party, and that you for your help, I'll be back in just a little bit already?" Haman had forgotten about having to change clothes, reapply her make up, and if she had time, tease her hair a little bit more.

"I don't know the kid, but if you want..."

He watched her run off, bemusedly. "This is not what I expected from the leader of Axis."
