You've met their guns for hire, I'm sure, but the group as a whole is mostly a cult of personality around one guy named Lans Chretien.
He started up the whole "Adventus" spiel about ten years ago. It started as your standard post-dated doomsayer cult, 'Second Impact was our fault because technology or pollution or Mayans or civil unions', whatever. Somewhere along the line, though, Chretien got the savvy and connections to get military backing from some of the Central Asian warlord states and got militant about it.
The man himself is just as fanatic as any of his followers. He puts on a reasonable enough face for public office, but for whatever reason, he's dedicated his entire being to bringing Earth back to the Stone Age piece by piece, completely disregarding any outside threat. He's either the biggest self-absorbed moron in the long history of self-absorbed moronic political leaders, or he knows something we don't.
