here's a little cross-journal(xanga) flava for you guys:

I really admire daddy yankee for his gasolina song. I don't understand all of the words, but clearly it is a satire of the president's policies, and in particualr, the failure to diversify sources of crude oil. The song is a desperate plea for the president to reevaulte the current dependence of the U.S. on foreign oil (opec) and to provide greater domestic refining of crude oil. Thus, allowing the US to be more independent socio-economically. This particular sentiment is evident in the chorus of the song which states "dame mas gasolina!." This song is not only critical of energy policies, but moreover, the policies of the entire ruling regime and Bush's lack of insight regarding the delicate and unstable situation in the trade of the world's greatest commodity. In addition, mr yankee sympathizes with the current energy situation, but is equally quick to point out the flaws of merely opening up the "Strategic Petroleum Reserve." Yankee's insight reaches as far enouhg to say that this solution, albeit effective, will be very short-lived and in reality is only a temporary conclusion to the everpresent problem of gasoline infaltion.
