I choose to trust people until I'm given a reason to do otherwise. That had been the case with Alexei. I couldn't see that he had already become someone different from the Commandant I admired, the ideal knight, until it was too late. Even now, I sometimes wonder how Alexei could have come to that.

And then there's Sodia...

[Suzaku can relate to this statement all too well. Though he no longer gives people the benefit of the doubt the same way he does before. He wants to, but it doesn't come easy.]

Sometimes people's hands are forced to move in a way they never wanted them to.

[ /DENIAL. I mean.... ]

I understand, but I believe there's always a choice to do the right thing.

Sometimes doing the right thing also means doing terrible things to accomplish it.

How can it be the right thing to do if it also means doing terrible things?

Because rarely does the right thing come easily. Have you ever fought in a war?

No.

[ Technically, there was the Great War some ten years before the game or somesuch.... but Flynn was too young to have fought in it. ]

A lot of good people are forced to do terrible things in wars. They believe what they are doing is right and protects their freedoms. Do you think they should lay their arms down instead and be conquered?

I think that wars shouldn't be allowed to happen in the first place. If wars force people to do terrible things, then they should be prevented.

Would you kill one person if it meant you could stop a war?

Only if that was the only option left. And if that person's death will be lawful.

But by doing that, you take away people's voices. People have a right to fight for what they believe in. [He thought killing his father would benefit Japan but instead, they became slaves of Britannia.]

War- Violence isn't the answer to satisfying the people's desires. If the law is at fault, and if it's bringing the people suffering-- The answer to it isn't to destroy the law, it's to change it.

Violence should be the last course of action.

I agree. A lawless society would be at a loss and the law should protect people and guarantee their freedom. Violence should be the last course of action, but sometimes it's needed to change the law.

[Sometimes you need to kill a whole lot of people and turn the world upside down, in order to change the law and people's perspectives. Sob.]

I want to avoid having to resort to violence. I will avoid having to resort to violence.

[ Or you can get a giant tentacle monster threatening to literally rape the planet to make the world agree on something for a change. ]

If you can find a way to avoid resorting to violence and create a peace that everyone can agree upon, then I envy you. [His voice doesn't sound sarcastic or demeaning, but rather he genuinely wishes he could have done the same.]

It's still a long way towards that, but I won't be the only one working towards it.

We'll make it possible, somehow.

[ Suzaku, maybe if you and Lelouch actually talked more........ ]
