Help! My cat sat on my computer and it can't get up!
Specifically, she sat on the keyboard (not entirely sure on what keys, but somewhere in the middle, there,) and whatever she pressed makes the monitor turn itself off. I can reset the computer and get the Windows XP logo to appear on the monitor during boot-up, but then, I get a monitor self test and a note that it's going into energy-saving mode. By all appearances, the computer's still on, and it and the monitor are still connected by the cable, but they're ignoring one another. This means my computer is a lovely paperweight.
If it helps, the computer is the base of a laptop, not a regular keyboard, but it's attached to a freestanding monitor, because the laptop screen has gone the way of all things. I'm sure that there's some sort of built-in guard against cat-astrophic key-pushing. I don't believe she's done permanent damage (she's not heavy, she wasn't wet, there was no groaning, sparking, or smoking from the keyboard), but I'd appreciate any advice you can give me to help me sort this out and guard against it in the future...
