*grins*

Lets get one thing clear. I'm a fan of Imran Khan as well as Deepika Padukone and so my review will reflect that. Near the end of the review I will post potential spoilers (this movie kinda didn't really have *spoilers* per-say, but still) Also I shall say how non-deepika fans reacted just to make it easier :D

Let's start by saying, the concept is fun and fresh because let's face it, it is. I mean yeah there have been movies that deal with couples getting together as well as breaking up but this took it one step further because of how well the characters were etched out. The beginning credits were adorable because of the way they showed Abhay Gulati and Aaliya Khan meeting when they're little kids, and all :) It was absolutely *squeal-worthy* cute =D
Okay so the movie started with Preeti's, (Abhay's sister) wedding. The intro of Imran is absolutely cute <3 It starts with him practicing his proposal to Aaliya with the cutest dialogues and then his mirror reflection basically answering back what Aaliya would say. Then Aaliya's intro :p she's smoking a cigar which was totally :o ish to me :p but it showed her ...unique-ness? More like her character, anyways so basically they showed both of their different characters and how they meshed together in the first twenty ish minutes. Then they moved onto how she always put her dreams ahead of everyone else including her mother Ayesha (Sharmila Tagore) who she also barely calls mom or ma, it's always Ayesha this Ayesha that where as Abhay is always resepectful towards elders and everyone. So she makes a choice that takes her to Australia leaving everyone behind.
After about two months or so of really inconvenient talking and constant arguing/yelling Aaliya decides to take a 'real' break. Our adorable hero Abhay of course flies 'saat samunder par' to reach his lady love <3 Aaliya however isn't pleased and so she really breaks up with him. Abhay is persistent though and he stays with her under the same roof.
  • Awesome house btw, it was like on a little island, which had like four rooms and stuff =) Totally breathtakingly gorgeous <3
So then Abhay becomes more self reliant and starts finding his own identity which was one of Aaliya's problems with him that he was just too easy going with his life, doing a job that kept his dad happy and not himself. So yeah he starts his own little business with both of their housemates while Aaliya continues on keeping the break going.
Lots of things happen then that lead to Abhay moving out of the house, Aaliya doing the same. The story continues at a medium pace which is nice because it's really easy-going. It's not like a dumb comedy (no names mentioned) where you just sit there and let the story move forward with a couple laughs here and there. Nor is it a really INTENSE movie where you feel your head hurting. It's a fun movie made to have a good time, and show you some awesome acting by the two of them.
Deepika Padukone is Aaliya. She takes the character and really carves herself into her. There is not one scene where you don't feel she is being real. Each expression, each mannerism she does with such ease that it makes it believable.
Imran Khan surprised me though. After seeing his 'cool dude' image in IHLS this was a complete 180 turnaround. Abhay is like the most adorable sweetest boyfriend and even just a friend as well <3 He literally made me 'awwwww' a couple gazillion times :p
Shahana goswami and Yudi were totally awesome as well. They just like niched themselves into the character completely. Sharmila ji (I have issues, I feel bad just calling her by name) looked ethereal. She has aged so beautifully, and even now continues to act with radiance. I'll agree with critics when they say she was wasted in the film. They could've used her brilliance even more if they wanted to.

Like every film this one too had tons of flaws which I won't mention because they will lead to spoilers and I've kinda left my review spoiler free. But the dialogue promo's that they showed were left out which seriously annoyed me :(( cuz they're totally cute :D Umm also I was happily surprised that they didn't show some drama emerge from the fact that she was a Muslim while he was a Hindu. I think I was happy that this movie took a different route and didn't want to deal with all that...it was just a movie to be enjoyed :)
Some adorable scenes, dialogues that made a mark in my head:
  • Gelato/Gulati and Al. Their nicknames for each other, absolutely adorable <3
  • 'screw you Abhay,' 'not a bad idea.' *he picks her up and throws her over his shoulder* <3
There were tons more scenes but I realllyy don't want to give anything away. but all in all, if you love romantic films, adorable boys who are totally sweet, totally feisty girls then this movie is def worth a watch.
Love,
Meera
