Hamesha && Forever is what "We Are Family" should've been called in my mind because those three words really spoke volumes about the movie rather than we are family. Anyways asides from that, this is my review for the movie =) I am a biased Kajol fan (which does not mean I'm going to be bashing Kareena it just means if you don't agree with me, keep it to yourself, please and thank you)
The way the movie started out with the Aankhon Mein Neendein song, I kinda didn't like because right from the beginning it just showed Kareena (Shreya) and Arjun (Aman) in love and I had kinda hoped that they would do some sorta flashback to show how she might have been different than Maya's character which made him fall in love with her after his divorce. Sadly they didn't do that. But baring that aside I loved the way the rest of the family was shown. Anjali (little adorable Diya) was in a play and so they full family came to watch it. At this point Aman and Maya have been divorced for 3 years but still maintain a fairly cordial relationship for their kids.
Then comes Anjali's birthday party where her daddy was supposed to bring her a barbie birthday cake which he did. He also brought along his new girlfriend as well. Shreya enters with the cake and at first the kids are obviously very rude but then they all say hi. Chaos strikes when Shreya slips along with the special cake. Basically ruining the 4 year old's birthday =( (the main plus point in this entire movie is the way the kids have acted because that really tugs at your heart) Anyways so Shreya decides at this point to stay away from the three kids (Aleya, Ankush and Anjali) but of course Aman is called away on a photoshoot (His profession is a professional photographer) and so the kids were to spend the weekend with him since Maya was busy and so he calls Shreya to take the kids to his house. Shreya goes with a fuss, but that doesn't mean the kids do. During this entire trip while Shreya (horribly) gets along with the kids. We see Maya undergoing a CT scan (I think) anyways or it's an MRI..but anyways..from that point on we know that there's going to be something wrong.
I'm not going to say the entire story (scene by scene) even though I very well could, I'll just talk about performances.
For me this movie belonged to Kajol Devgan who once again proved why she's been my favorite since I was a little girl. She explodes on screen in every little scene; when she breaks down, when she decides to call Shreya, all her scenes with the kids. This woman was made to act and she was made to be so amazingly perfect. There is no one else who could've pulled off this role. It was tailor made for Kajol and she proved why she is the best at what she does.
Kareena Kapoor tugged at my heart. There are so many scenes where you feel for her. All the mental trauma and heartache that she goes through is so clearly perfectly depicted. She honestly was on par with Kajol in every scene they came together and the graph of their relationship flowed so perfectly that you could feel yourself being pulled along.
Arjun Rampal. Contrary to what most people believe he DID have tons to do in this movie. He was after all the mediator between the women. Arjun really did pull off his role perfectly, the love and care he had for Kajol but the romantic feelings he had for Kareena...it was all just perfectly shown.
All three kids as well have enacted their parts perfectly. There were no awkward moments that you could feel like their amateur new actors. They were that perfect in their roles. I do have more to say but I really don't want to give anything away. All I wanna say is that I've cried and yes I always cry but this movie just had me bawling my eyes out. That could have to do with the fact that whenever Kajol cries I start crying, but still...you'll need tissues if you have a heart....
I'd give this movie 4/5 because there were things that I didn't like but overall the reasons you should see this movie? Kajol, Kareena and Kajol's chemistry, and the way it's portrayed.
Honestly I couldn't have seen this type of movie at a better time. The feelings I felt while watching some moments and the reasons for my crying didn't have to do with just the movie. A lot of internal feelings got washed out through this movie...and I'm thankful for that. I also want to give special mention to the music which I didn't pay much attention to when the CD came out, but each song is perfectly put together with the screenplay. All in all, Sun Le Yeh Dua and Rehem O Karam along with Hamesha & Forever all made me cry..because every emotion was pulled through...
Love,
Meera
