we are now already into the thick of the drum corps season.
just got home from the second camp in two weeks. we were in new brunswick again, which means i had to drive an hour and a half up the turnpike instead of 40 minutes down route 73. but mom let me drive her camry, so that the both of us wouldn't have to worry about me breaking down somewhere between exits 8 and 8A. oh man that car is nice. which is funny cause it's not. it's just a '95 camry, but me being used to an '85 reliant, it felt like an '04 mustang. or something.
got to camp and realized that i was getting sick very quickly. friday night was horrible. couldn't sleep and woke up many times with a variety of sickness-related ailments, mainly in the nose. not being able to breathe wasn't a pleasant thing to wake up to.
so it was finally saturday. we went out to the high school and got in uniform so that we could march about 2 miles down the street and play at the opening of new brunswick's new baseball fields. it may not have been 2 miles, but me being sick and in uniform and using good marching technique, it sure as hell felt like it.
after it was done we marched all the way back. hands were numb. contra players were struggling. it was rough. but we'll all look back on it and be like "that's a good corps story."
we learned drill, but lots of holes meant that we'll be re-learning it in the next couple weekends.
today we played all our music in the rain all morning and then in the nice weather after lunch. then we reviewed the drill we learned yesterday and that was it. my company today made me forget about being sick...but as soon as i got home it came back. so i took some cold meds and did french stuff.
finals week this week. drum corps every weekend. nice.
