Gary Gyax has died

I haven't played D&D in years, but it seriously shaped the early years of my life.

The first thing I got was the board game "Dungeon", very simple but good for me at the time. I must have been about 7, but the full game followed soon after.

First there was the beginners box set. I remember coloring in the numbers on the dice, wiping away the wax, leaving it in the crevices of the numbers. Then came the expert set, more advanced rules, but still entry level. I remember when I first got the player's handbook, how I poured over it, trying to figure out what class I would be, how I would play, the campaigns that I would go on. I can remember specific images from it with clarity. That picture of the Troll near the back? Horrifying!

This was a huge spark to my creativity and followed me for many years playing with several different groups. The fact that D&D existed really helped create significant parts of who I am. The name that I use online is a bastardization of a name that I created for a campaign in college.

I would love to write more, but I need to get back to work. Just wanted to talk about this...
