One Word: Wow.
Two Words: See it.
Three Words: See it again.
Just back from the midnight showing, waiting to cool down enough that I can sleep. Batman: The Dark Knight was neck in neck with Iron Man for my most anticipated summer movie. I'm not sure which I'd place better, but I'm glad I saw them both on the big screen. Either one, I could spend a half hour or more gibbering with a friend "Did you see that? And that was so cool! And that! oh, and that line!"
DK was, well, dark. Surprisingly so. Heath Ledger's Joker was everything the hype had set me up for. Christian Bale's Batman has improved over Batman Begins- both the acting, and the character. Gary Oldman does a great job as Jim Gordon, same for Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. Michael Caine... good, but it seemed a much smaller part this time.
There is no post-credits scene, but what comes before is more than enough.
Among the trailers:
A cop film starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. Good to see them both in serious, restrained roles.
The Day the Earth Stood Still
The new Terminator, with Christian Bale as John Connor.
Tropic Thunder, which had been on my radar thanks to Robert Downey Jr. Got a bit more of the plot in this trailer, and might be worth seeing.
Oh, and there was a trailer for some little movie called Watchmen... which everyone has probably seen online, but damn, it looks good on the big screen. It looks like they're trying to put the comic on screen, and looks like they might be succeeding.
