In the small of the night, I oftentimes wonder - what will be thought of us in fifty years? Or five hundred?

Will England, this jewel of a country, even exist, or - may God forbid it - shall it have disappeared from the pages of history, swept away in a tide of foreign conquest.

Shall our triumphs and disasters be forgotten by those who come after us? I pray not - for these times, troublesome as they sometimes may be - are well worth remembering. And in the remembering, perhaps lessons that we have learned with much grief and blood will be passed along so that they need not be re-discovered in such a painful way.

Pah! From a Soldier, I am now turned Philospher…surely I am in my dotage. I need another mug of ale...
