Office Woes

So my work currently owns floors on two (maybe three) different buildings, and apparently they just bought another floor on one of the buildings, which my whole department is now moving into. This is a good thing for me in the long-term, because my phone doesn’t get any reception on the first floor, but I checked it out and I get great reception on the top floor, which is where I’ll be moving to.

Today is the day they’re moving all the shit though, so nobody is allowed on either floor today. Because of this, everybody gets to work from home today.

Everybody except me, and like four other contractors. Apparently they don’t trust contractors to work from home, so they have to come in. And I guess I get that, except my contract is about to end in 2 weeks here and as far as I know I’m going to be hired by them directly, which means in 2 weeks I’ll be capable of working from home. I feel like I’m 20, and my birthday is in two weeks and I’ll finally be able to drink, but if I drink now I’ll get arrested. What’s going to change about me in the next two weeks that I’ll go from irresponsible to responsible and trustworthy? I don’t know.

So now I’ve staked out a claim on a training room that nobody else is in, which is nice as I like the privacy, but I just found out that this area’s going to be used by several different people throughout the day, so at some point I’ll probably need to move elsewhere. Which is fine too, I guess, but I get the feeling that this is going to be a long day.

Worst part about it all is that I’m working off of a laptop right now, when I’m used to having a dual-monitor display system, and now I just get this tiny little thing. I’m not a fan. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to work off of a single monitor comfortably again, at home or at work. In fact, if I could afford it and had the desk space I’d get a whole four-screen Matrix setup.

As an aside, I’ve won several poker tournaments the past week or two, though I’ve lost quite a few too. Overall I’m still in the negatives for the past two weeks, but that’s only because I lost the last three tournaments in a row early on because I deviated from my normal plan. I’m going to go back to my old plan tonight or tomorrow, and we’ll see how that works out.

in the sorrows, who fucking knows?
