When I told people that I was staying at the apartment and working over the break, they were like "Won't you get bored??" and you know, I really haven't. It's been a nice break and it's hard to believe that school starts in a week... I wish that it started a bit later, but it'll be good to have all (or most, I guess I should say since some people are abroad) of my friends around again.
The Redskins lost on Saturday to the Seahawks and we were all a little disappointed, but the general reaction from everyone I've talked to (and myself) if that we're happy that we got as far as we did, especially since few people would have thought that we would have gotten that far at the start of the season.
The really interesting game this weekend was definitely, without a doubt, the Steelers/Colts game. Now, I was torn before the game started as to who I should root for because I like the Steelers and my friend Jordan is a HUGE Steelers fan (we're going to watch the game together next weekend), but I also really like Peyton Manning, but I finally decided that I was going to root for the Steelers because they need my support more because *obviously* the Colts were going to win, in fact, they were going to win the Super Bowl, right? Wrong. The Steelers played really well on offense and put a lot of pressure on Manning on defense making it hard to believe that he's the best quarterback in the league. Finally, the Colts started playing like they used to, until about 1:20 was left in the game and Manning went for it on fourth down on the Colts.. five or so I think. He didn't get it, and the Steelers got the ball on 1st and goal. They hand it off to Bettis, the Bus, who is one of their best short distance runners and HE FUMBLES IT! The Colts recover and run it down the field to about the 40, I think, where Roethlisberger (the Steelers quarterback) managed to get a hand on him to tackle him. So now the Colts have about 1:10 to kick a field goal to tie it. They get down the field, kick the field goal.... and it's wide to the right. At that point there was only about 17 seconds left and the Steelers downed to it win the game. But man, that was so crazy... My friend Jordan hadn't been able to watch the game because she was working, but she was on her way home when the fumble and everything happened... she said she was listening during the field goal and the announcer was like "it's long enough... it's straight enough..." and then there was this pause and she was screaming at the radio "what?? what??" and then finally the announcer was like "it's no good!" It's a wonder she didn't crash.
Also, apparently one guy (and possibly others) had a heart attack when Bettis fumbled... luckily he was in a bar when it happened and I think there were fire fighters or something there and they were able to save him... he was quoted as saying "The Steelers won the game and I'm still alive, so I guess I'm doing pretty good."
It really would have sucked if the Colts had won, especially since the NFL admitted that the ref had made a mistake when he said that Steelers' player Troy Polamalu had not intercepted the ball. I was really impressed with Polamalu after the call... he didn't look upset or angry or anything, he just got up, put his helmet back on and went to play. Considering that he DID intercept the ball, it's really amazing that he wasn't upset or anything... that takes a lot of discipline to be able to do that and I was really impressed with him.
On a non-football note, I went to a party at my friend's house in Columbia last night.. it was a lot of fun just hanging out with everyone... it'll be nice when the semester starts up again... though just because then I'll get to see my friends all the time again... Not really looking forward to the whole "classes starting" thing... which is in a week from now... boo.
