It has been a week since I posted. Here's the scoop….
Monday - we stayed in at the hotel. Had a pretty mellow day, recovered from that horrendously long flight. Had dinner with a bunch of awesome people.

I am so relived about the house - It wasn't my favorite but it will be awesome anyway. The house we're in now never felt like home to Bob - he still thinks of it as 'my house' even though we rented it to move in together - I did the hunting and renting and it's mostly my furniture in it.
You may not have as much trouble househunting when you get around to it - we were intentionally looking at the very bottom of the non-ghetto market. We don't really have much in savings beyond retirement accounts, so we're doing it with a 3% down FHA loan and asking for cash back to close. Our goal was to buy a place that we could support on one salary if we need to. So we've been bidding against both the starter home crowd and the investors buying up everything in sight for rentals. I suspect you guys will be looking a step or two upmarket and it won't be so bad. Our plan is to pay triple the principal every month and move back to Alameda with some equity to sell or convert it to a rental in 5-10 years.
