"Systemic Microvascular Dysfunction and Inflammation after Pulmonary Particulate Matter Exposure"

That's the title of a manuscript the professor I'm working under has published and basically what I'm going to be working on this summer here in Morgantown. It's pretty neat stuff once you get a handle on the details and vocabulary.

I operated on my first (live) rat Friday. It was a pretty weird experience. The scissors are back in hand tomorrow and this will be a real control run (though still practice if it doesn't turn out). To be able to view in real-time the circulation of blood in this muscle that we isolate is very cool. I'm really looking forward to my experiments getting up and running so I have stuff to do besides calibrate machinery and read manuscripts all day.

Morgantown is alright. MapQuest is useless for finding anything here, though. You're better off just getting a general idea of where whatever location might be then going to find it on your own.

Also sent in my med school application the other day. Pressing the "submit" button was a big deal because you can't change anything once it's been sent. We'll see how that goes -- the stress is off until they start sending out secondary applications. Then it's back on again and stays fairly constant from what I've heard until you hear about interviews and then acceptances. It's such a fun process!

I hope everyone's summer is going wonderfully! :)
