I was feeling sour about the notion of going back to work tomorrow until I remembered that it's a holiday that I have off. Thank the gods.
I was introduced to what my job has become and what it will be for the next three months.
I will be standing at a scanner for four hours out of the day and scanning the documents I've been typing from for the past two years. These are funky/fancy copier/scanner/printers that seem to do everything up to slicing and dicing. This should be a doddle! Remove the staples, load them up in the auto feed and let 'er rip!
Except they don't need to scan everything. A lot of pages don't need to be scanned because they're already in the system. And some pages are double sided but most aren't so it'd be foolish to double scan everything. Fine. So separate them out and if you've got a run of single sided pages, put them through the auto feed!
I've been told we can't do that because then they won't "look nice".
Even if all I'm doing is scanning one side of the top sheet, I need to unstaple it, place it on the glass, scan it and then staple it again. Because it's gotta look nice!

I hate it when I learn that the efficient way of doing something has been trumped by the "right" way for no sensible reason that can be explained or proven by testing. I've checked and there's no discernible difference between that hand scanned PDF and an auto scanned PDF. Which means that this is busy work. This is time killing.
