Desperation (Part 1)
Brian had only felt this terrified once before (cradling Justin’s limp body against his own, begging for his life in a silent waiting room), but he is there again, back in that damned hospital, where it all began. This time Justin is right by his side, pacing back and forth in a desperation Brian remembers very well. Not even the glaring light of the OR made him feel this helpless, this out of control. Gus is a burning, shivering mass in his arms, mumbling frantically and clinging trustingly to him, and he tastes the bitter tang of failure once more.
Desperation (Part 2)
Lindsay begs and pleads for him to do something, but Brian is no hero, and the ER is packed. He is only one man, albeit a very desperate one.
The doctors and nurses speed quickly past them, and it seems like hours have gone by until they are finally called in. Brian is reluctant to let go, suddenly irrationally afraid, but Lindsay calls him back to reality, and Gus is being poked and probed everywhere.
"It's just a cold," the doctor says.
To Brian it is desperation and failure, a silent waiting room, and Gus’ body trembling against his own.
