Long story short I will have VERY limited access to computers/internet for a while so my posts will be infrequent at best, but I thought I'd leave ya'll one last thing for total's March Madness! ^^

What Is Normal? -Richard-

'Change, so much change in so few days. Louis, it sure wasn't easy to work my way into her heart following the wake Superman left. Superman had left her without word or warning, leaving her wide open and hurting. I respect Superman (Who doesn't?), but doing that to her was such a careless act. I'm amazed at how quickly that wrong was forgiven, but then again she truly loves him.

'Once he returned to our lives I questioned her if she was still in love with him, she denied it then but I could see the lie in her eyes. That cut me deeper than I thought, of course I knew she loved him, but she couldn't even tell me to my face the truth. I don't fault her for her love, he is truly the perfect man. Stunningly blue eyes framed by jet black hair, always tossed just so, on top of his very masculine frame, no mortal man could ever hope to compete. On top of that he never lies, is a champion for justice a world renowned hero; a god amongst men...how could I ever hope to compete with that? I was foolish to ever believe that I could compete with him, foolish to believe our love was strong enough to weather his return. Thats why I had to do it, I couldn't take stay knowing you loved another, I chose to let you go Lois, I need to move on.

Richard laughs a little at himself and his worries when the whole of the world is rejoicing the return of their savior. Shaking his head slightly, 'Got to hand it to you Superman, I didn't think you'd make it back after we rescued you from the waves only to fly straight back. I truly am glad that you made it and was lucky enough to have others there to save you, you really are a good man. The best in fact, so much so that I'm ashamed of my resentment towards you. I do wonder why you haven't taken Lois back yet, what could have changed in your heart.'

A few days have passed since Superman's resurrection and his and Lois's tear filled talk about their future, or lack there of. It left Richard hurting, but relieved that he did the right thing, and at least they will raise their child together even if they are apart. all alone Richard will have to try and find love again. 'Although not picking Superman's number one fan girl might be a better place to start unlike last time.'

Shaking his head of his thoughts he looks up to watch Clark enter the building. 'Somethings different, something in his eyes. Come to think of it he hasn't been to work since Superman's fall, wonder if anything happened to him.'

Richard really takes a good look at Clark for the first time, his eyes rake over Clark's tall frame. 'Damn he's tall, never really noticed before since he is always slouching in on himself. Nice build, not too fat nor too skinny, although he really should try something with that hair. With those glasses and that hair...style it raises his geekiness sky high, although it is kinda cute if you are into nerds. That's Clark for you, looks that could easily have every woman in the building drooling and what does he do with it? He hides it all away, truly a shame, hope he is able to find someone with a thing for nerds, we are sorta rare now a days.'

Clark's face is alight with a happy emotion Richard cannot quite place, but as Clark catches sight of Lois his face falls and blue eyes cloud with..what? Shame, guilt maybe? 'Now what is up with that? Why would Clark Kent, president of the Lois Lane fan club, have an expression like that? A mystery, no doubt a mystery worth cracking. Richard thinks in a mildly devious manor, a slight smirk crosses his face at the chance to use his rusty investigator skills on such innocent and unsuspecting prey.

When those blue eyes turn to look into his own it wipes the smirk right off his face. 'Damn her...beautiful! Wow and to think he's single...' A flash of fear flickers across those eyes but is quickly gone leaving only joy, an awkward smile lights up his face as he waves to Richard. Richard waves back with an amused smile, 'Only Clark can pull off being that awkward and dorky and still remain cute...cute? Did I just think Clark Kent, walking disaster, is cute?'

"Kent! Get your butt in here now! And don't you think a simple excuse will work this time!" Richard and Clark both jump at Mr. White's unexpected and loud bellow across the office. Clark looks worried and quickly gains a blush on his cheeks when nearly everyone turns their head and focuses their attention on him. "Now Kent or you can kiss your job goodbye!" Perry White bellows out again from his office. Clark ducks his head and hurries to the office stumbling, tripping and knocking over almost everything in his path.

'The stress must be getting to me to think any of that walking disaster area is cute.' Thinking the show is over Richard shakes his head and turns back to his computer monitor intent on work when it goes blank. Richard slides his chair back to look at the power cable recently freed from its socket.

"Ssorry." Mumbles Clark from the floor as he pushes himself up onto his knees. Richard offers his hand to help Clark to his feet, Clark's glasses are resting barely on the edge of his nose revealing bright blue eyes twinkling in happiness as he takes the offered hand. "Thanks sorry again." Clark stampers out as he stands and pushes his glasses back up with face with a little laugh. "Ah...yeah." Clark coughs and backs up into the desk behind him before running at all haste into Mr. White's office.

Richard smiles to himself at the antics of the hopeless man currently being screamed at. 'you are so helpless, I can't even begin to imagine how you made it through high school.' Pausing in his thoughts to contemplate the even more awkward gawky teen Clark, ' Good lord, there is no possible way you could be any more awkward than you already are..' Richard stops that train of thought vanquishing the image from his mind. He plugs back in his monitor and gets back to work with the ever so soothing sounds of Mr. White's yelling. Ahhh to know that the world hasn't ended and will go on.

A good half an hour later the shouting ceases and a ashen Clark walks out shutting the door behind him. Slowly he makes his way to his desk very careful to avoid bumping anyone or anything along the way. Somehow, by some miracle, he makes it to his desk without incident.

"Wow Lois, I think this is the first time I've seen him make it to his desk like a normal human being, White must have really chewed him out." Richard comments to Lois in a low voice just like when they were together. She turns to regard Clark for the first time since he came in. 'Guess she must really be used to his antics by now to not even notice.'

"Well he deserves it for how much work he misses. He never even tries to come up with a decent excuse, I'm surprised that he even got his job back." Lois says with a hint of annoyance, Richard can almost swear he sees Clark flinch at her words, but there is no way he could have over heard them.

"Ouch Lois, don't you think that was a little cold? Come on at least he tried and does great work when he is here." Richard sticks up in defense for the quiet geek sitting at his desk. Lois clicks her tongue in annoyance when Richard defends Clark instead of taking her side. 'Normally she'd just shoot Clark down or ignore him completely, why would she lash out? Jeez guess the break up affected her badly too...I should probably warn Clark to not try any pathetic attempts at conversation with her.' Pushing away from his desk Richard stands and strides over on a mission to help out a fellow man avoid certain death. There is a code of sorts, no man will let another fall victim to a women when in 'bitch-mode'. It's doubtful he even knows of this code or can even see the signs of a woman on the prowl, but its besides the point. Men have to watch each other's backs, when hurt women will lash out in a stunning show of vicious tongue lashing at all poor, unsuspecting male caught alone.

Richard shuddering in obvious memory as he nears the oblivious man. Clark is hutched over and riffling about his desk in search for his dropped pen, no doubt mind completely focused on the task as he takes no notice of Richard behind him.

A dastardly evil smirk crosses Richard's face when it occurs to him that in all likelihood Clark will jump in surprise of being snuk up on. Reaching out Richard loudly claps Clark's lower back expecting a surprised jump and yelp in fear, but he is taken aback when Clark's reaction is anything but expected.

Clark cries out in surprise sure enough, but his cry is laced with pain(I couldn't have hit him that hard) and he falls over onto his desk knocking many items to the ground. Rushing over Richard carefully avoids touching Clark's back and puts an arm over his should and the other at Clark's side.

"Oh my god! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean...I didn't know you were hurt." Blabs out Richard in panicky guilt as he helps Clark back to his feet.

"I..ahh..no. I Its okay." Clark mumbles out and reaches up to push he glasses up in a nervous habit. When he realizes they aren't there his blue eyes widen in panic. 'Stupid stupid stupid! Now not only have you hurt him but he seems to be scared!' Richard mentally berates himself as he reaches over and across Clark's chest to grab the glasses lying on the disarranged desk seconds before Clark's fingers get there. 'Clark looks worried, scared even, Richard you are a terrible person.' Clark's hands flutter around awkwardly in confusion as Richard, with his eyes still focused on Clark's pulls the glasses up to Clark's face and gently places them on his nose. Richard's hands linger slightly as he tucks the glasses behind Clark's ears. 'So cute...' Richard thinks absently as he brushes away a stray lock of hair from Clark's face.

"There," Richard says simply letting his hands drop out of Clark's personal space. "What happen Clark, why are you hurt?" Richard asks, concern written all over his face. A Blush works its way across Clark's cheeks in a delayed reaction to the recent events.

"I..uh...uh..well...you didn't...its just...ah...I'm sore is all." Clark's words trip and tumble over themselves as they leave his lips. 'Liar' Richard mentally accuses at the horrible attempt at being misleading. Richard's eyes narrow looking into blue eyes that flicker around looking anywhere but back to his own. 'What are you hiding?' His eyes ask, the answer is a nervous step back into the desk in attempt to escape. Richard takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, when they reopen they soften completely at the sight Clark makes; the human embodiment of a kicked puppy. 'Jeez, who taught you that trick?'

"okay, okay I can see you really don't want to talk about it right now, but please if you need someone to talk to, please just say so." Clark visibly relaxes thinking he is off the hook, "I just...no one...hurt you did they?" Richard asks quietly so no one can over hear. Clark's eyes widen in surprise he is quick to hide, 'Too late, that's a definite yes.' Forestalling another pathetic stammering string of denials Richard shakes his head a gently pats and squeezes Clark's left shoulder before turning to leave.

"You are eating lunch with me today, my treat as an apology. Don't argue." Richard tosses at Clark over his shoulder. Turning to look over Clark once more his heart flutters at the sight of the completely flustered and unbalanced man still pressed up against his desk in terror as though he were facing a monster. "Relax I won't ask. Really don't worry Clark, I just want to get to know the Daily Planet's very own walking disaster better." Richard jokes with a disarming grin causing the aforementioned disaster to blink then smile back. 'Good' Richard thinks as he leaves to get back down to work a smile still lingering on his lips.
