AFF 2007 Con Report

Apr 05, 2007 14:24

I'm going to make this entry public, just because... well... it's pretty much public information anyway, and I do want people who aren't on my friends list to be able to view the entry, too.

Anyway, without further ado, here's my ( uber-long AFF 2007 Con Report. )

Thanks for your rundown. I'm hoping for next year. It was one of the best "con" experiences I've ever had regardless of the variety of genres out there. The numbers were perfect and the venue was near-perfect. If, indeed, your staff had as little experience running a con as you say, then THAT is the magic ticket. Maybe people know 'too much' sometimes and cause more stress. The staff was perfect. The schedule can be tweaked a bit, but nothing was negative by any means.

Hehe! Well, none of us had done it before... and nobody let their ego get in the way of good common sense and helpful advice among the con staff. I hope we're always able to keep things like that.

Thank you also for hosting a panel! I really would have liked to attend-- it seemed like you had a lot of really interesting stuff prepared! (If you're willing to do something similar at next year's con, I'll do my best to attend it, eh!)

"Lack of ego' yeah, THAT'S that tisket that most cons miss!

I'm hoping for a chance to do the panel for the furry crowd again. It was just a plain good friendly time. I've gotten a lot of inquiries about it.
By the way, a lot of the resources that I used or mentioned are posted on the AFF website under the panels section in case anyone asks. There's a lot of good stuff. Not all of it by any means, but good stuff.

I wouldn't say it's lack of ego so much as lack of priorities. It's important to have a healthy ego about your convention, enough to know that even if it's not the largest or the best, that it is worth going to and thus worth doing what it takes to keep it that way. I've seen cons hit a good point and then try to coast on popularity. I've seen cons struggle with the fact that they're not the very highest in attendance despite throwing all their resources into it, never aware that it just might be an attitude problem that makes people want to go elsewhere. It's a priority issue, a lack of the right sort of enthusiasm and honest work. AFF certainly had none of these problems, and having spent time with the other staff, I think I can safely say that the only person who might ever have an ego-and-priorities issues would be me. *grin ( ... )

Thanks for the comments. I was hoping to run into you both online somewhere since I did not get any contact information.
:-)
I'm pretty accustomed to blowing the "alternative lifestyle" mold! Thank you very much for not only attending, but contributing and chatting in the off-moments. I hope to see you again in the future.

Also, I posted above that I put the lists of resources on the AFF website, and I also added several that we discussed, but were not on the handouts. Let me know if anything is missing!
*hugs*
