On the con: I'm glad that it's all coming together. You should write a wiki how-to when you're all done.
On the election: I'm all for dropping the parties. Given however that the number of positions Americans vote for is staggering; I think it would be wise to do two things. Decrease the number of elected positions, and second stagger elections through the year.
On the first part, I've always grumbled about positions like country coroner being an elected positions. With a little work I could probably find a half dozen other positions that would work better as appointments. Decreasing the number of elected officials would allow people to research more thoroughly and get a better sense of the options.
On the second, I would like to see locality, country, state, and federal elections staggered throughout the year. I would also limit advertising for an election to only happen from the day after an election to the day of the current election process, thus limiting advertising to 6-12 weeks. Giving every election a quick clear focus would do well to avoid election fatigue.
Oh and regardless of the US listening to our dictates and removing parties, I really think election day should be a federal holiday. Or at the very least it needs to be moved to a weekend.

HAhah! THAT'S a rant? You're so cute when you're trying to be forceful. ;)
And yes, your suggestions do make a lot of sense; Hopefully some campaign reform laws will get passed with the new congress, moving us that much closer to a system that works...
