i only read a little of the discussion before i had to stop...

basically, people need to realize that we don't live in a utopia where everyone flits around with an empty, mindless gaze on their faces while dishing out compliments and loving each other. eventually we'll be trying so hard not to step on anyone's toes that it will take an hour just to say a simple comment. (i'm basically referring to the lengthy discourse between you and psymonetta.)

i personally thought some of those comments were ridiculously defensive. if the smokers went back and examined their own attractions, i'm sure they would find a group of people they could list as unattractive to them. but when someone lists a group they associate themselves with (i.e. smokers) as less than perfect, they automatically consider it a personal assault on them. this world is becoming too PC. don't offend someone, or you might be considered a redneck. (oops, now the rednecks are going to be after me...)

pretty much anything I'd have to say to this is in the above discussion with calm_waters.

Though I will post a quote here from one comment of psymonetta's that helped me understand why a poem turned into a flame fest:

The next time you decide to post about your personal preferences on a public message board, be sure to limit the action of opining in the statments to yourself.

You were attractive until = no good
I found you attractive until = fine

"I found you attractive until" isn't seven syllables.

Point and counterpoint. ;)

if he did it with a drawl
"I found you 'tractive until"
or "I found you attractive till"
