Elliott Smith - Figure 8
This record was released very close to when he committed suicide. It is a lot more leveled, but sonically fuller. I absolutely love the record to start. One of my favorite tracks, LA, details a near-suicide: "Living in the day, when last night I was about to throw it all away," which haunts the record of the known context. death aside, this is unbelievable songwriting, and I eat it up like the old school cookie monster. Tiki's Picks: Son of Sam, Somebody That I Used to Know, LA, Easy Way Out, Pretty Mary K, Everything Means Nothing To Me.
CCR - Cosmo's Factory
This, and the next, were impulse buys that came from a yearning to listen to the stuff my father used to play on the way to maine. While of course he has these records, they're in tape form, and I absolutely needed my CCR fix. Cosmo's Factory is under-appreciated material for the band. While it's not my favorite either, there are many reasons to want this one. I don't think I need to explain either of these records to anyone. Tiki's Picks: Travelin' Band, Run Through the Jungle, Who'll Stop the Rain, I Heard It Through the Grapevine.
CCR - Green River
This is one of my favorite records of all time. I love every single song. Most important is the title track, which I believe to be one of the most amazing songs in rock history. Other songs that stand out: Tombstone Shadow (esp that hawt solo), Wrote a Song for Everyone, Lodi.
more to come.
