A bit not good.

I've had an idea for a somewhat cracky, very porny, series-two-what-series-two Sherlock slash fic for a little while now.

I cannot possibly write it.

FOR ALL THE REASONS EVER.

I just thought I should make that clear.

Oh, I can't say it publicly--that would give away the game! I'll PM you or whatever. :)

I understand being nervous about the big (insane) fandom--I won't even watch the show for that exact reason, so.

My Borg comments notwithstanding, it seems like there must be some enclave out there for non-crazypants Sherlock fans to hang out and engage. I mean, the only reason I don't know where is that I don't go looking for that stuff in general. But it must exist. There are several non-crazypants fans just in this little thread!

I mean, okay, you also have to be able to ignore the fact that the main creative and performing talent behind the show seem themselves to be overprivileged twits. Also, I know that you in particular would have a major, major problem with the way women are portrayed. You know. When they're portrayed at all.

But, um. *wince* I don't know, it's just such a pleasure to watch. It could in part be the supreme relief coming off of something like BB, to be able to enjoy acting and cinematography and character relationships without simultaneously trying to stuff my guts back in my chest. And there is so. Much. Fic, and a lot of it is really, really, really good, which is kind of amazing considering. And, I don't know. I just feel bad that you can't enjoy it with me because of stupid people being stupid.

ETA: Also, the Sherlock BBC Kink Meme is absolutely one of the most fascinating, validating, and frightening fannish places I've ever been. I am addicted.

I could watch and enjoy the show with you if I could actually watch and enjoy the show with you. Cumberbatch's douchery and the show's misogyny issues aside, I've never felt like I wouldn't enjoy the show itself. But I would just want some way to be able to engage the show more deeply than just watching it (especially since I'd have to do it legally and probably pay good money for it), and by myself that would mean having to just dive into the fandom, and I'm just not up for all the work and calculation and compartmentalization involved in finding a place (even as a lurker) in a fandom that big and strange.

Well, come watch it with me! I'm here for Christmas. You could also help me with my research. ;D

Hmm. I hadn't really considered visiting over winter break because I don't have a ton of time and I need to make sure I'm there for the holidays and get to visit with everyone and whatnot. But I'll think about it.

You could also help me with my research. ;D

:) *blush*

I figured you might have family obligations. If you're able, though, I'd be much in favor. Plus you'd be here to help me celebrate my being done with school!

I'll figure out how much time I have and do some thinking. If I go back close to the same time I did this past January, I should have a good chunk of time post-Christmas. We could celebrate New Years together! But you'll have to put up with me doing prep for the spring semester while I'm there, probably.

This is exciting! I hope I can make it work.

*shrug* Last time you were here you had to put up with my school stuff. We still had fun.

Yay New Year's! Just let me know how your thought processes are shaping up over the next month or so.

The prep won't even take that long; if I'm teaching 104 again in the spring it'll take very little time at all, because I intend to keep the same course design, and if I'm doing 103 (more likely), it'll be about a solid day's work.

I just looked, and classes start the 14th of January. I'll go back some time between the 10th and the 13th. So there would be enough time, I think, to recover from the trip and get my shit together if I came at the end of December.

Little concerned about flying during the holiday season. Do you know if it's really as much of a hassle as the news always makes it sound?

Anyway, I'll let you know. But thanks a bunch for the invite; makes me feel awesome to know I'd be welcome.

I don't know what it's like flying during the holidays, no. I've never done it. I would think the trick is to try and pick at least a relatively off-peak day/time. So if you're thinking after Christmas, which is a Tuesday, you might want to try something like Thursday the 27th, maybe on a red-eye or just really early or late. That's the kind of thing I normally try to do anyway when I travel.

Maybe check teh interwebs for more experienced advice. :)
