Roight. Can I just give you a list of bullet-point memories?
- there's a bakery in Pasadena farmer's market in Pasadena, California, that does the best cheesecake I've ever had.
- there is a giant statue of a hanging fist in the middle of Detroit.
- once, in Edmonton, I was walking down the road from the uni with a colleague I'd met at a conference, and she looked across the river valley at the buildings down there, and asked "is that Vancouver?" (It's downtown Edmonton. There's a range of mountains between Edmonton and Vancouver.)
- Somewhere in the vicinity of Rue Rachel in downtown Montreal is a place with a blue sign that does absolutely amazing poutine.
- the drive from Burlington, Vermont, to Boston, Massachussets is absolutely bloody gorgeous in the fall, when all the leaves are changing colour, through all the hills and trees and it's bloody gorgeous.
- there's a Starbucks on absolutely every corner in downtown Toronto. There might actually be more than one on some corners.
- I once had to spend the night in a bus station in Des Moines, Iowa. The only other people there were an elderly Amish couple, and there was a television on in the waiting area, and it was showing an old episode of CHiPs where there was some kind of insane ventriloquist puppet, and it was legitimately the scariest night of my life.
