So, Miss Stephalump and I went to go see Howl's Moving Castle last night and it was really quite good! I loved th characters, how ridiculous they were but still some how seemed so real. I suppose the human race is more ridiculous than we would like to imagine.
I thought it was also an interesting commentary on war given our present global circumstances. There was a scene where Sohpie and Howl see a battle ship go by, and Sophie asks it it one of thiers' or is it an enemy ship and Howl's response was simply "Does it matter?" I thought that was very thought provoking. It mirrored my own thoughts of war as of recent. War seems only to produce more war, and inevitably (and I no others have differing opinions, but I firmly believe this) with war comes hate. It is a natural progression to hate what is destroying you. We see it in our spiritual wars all the time, people battle against the sins that constantly keep them down, and then they start to hate the sin, and then when they begin to define themselves by their sin they begin to hate themselves. Its a dreadful cycle this warring against things. And when, and only when, we allow the Prince of Peace to reign in our lives, and yes our countries, will this cycle end. I realize that seems very cliche and simplistic, but sometimes the truth we've said over and over again begins to sound absurd, and we stop veiwing it as truth, and begin to think of it is a nice dream, sweet but hauntingly impossible.
I've had Anna Nalick stuck in my head for the past few days now . . .
"As I fall asleep to the sound of my heart to your beat
Melancholy and cool, kinda bittersweet
Love on repeat
I'm echoing all your philosophies"
Hum, such lovely lines.
Well, I must get back to work.
