second year, first semester enrollment: day one madness

Jun 03, 2008 19:20

Today was tiring, but comforting.

I woke up at 7 to get to UP on time to finalize the classes I was going to take for next semester. For a moment I was going for an incredible 21 units, which Bia had helpfully pointed out could keep me busy.

I was setting up to take some unremarkable Film majors; Production Design under a professor I really wanted to have; repeating Film 113 Film Production, because last semester under Sir Daza was a disaster, with him being an industry bastard, taking off for a third of our meetings and apathetically talking to our foreheads for the rest, and me missing the final shoot, which led to my getting an Incomplete grade (this becomes important later); Portuguese 10, because Portuguese is the sexiest language on earth, not voulez vous coucher avec moi; and lastly, Visual Communications 137: Copywriting, which Bia's and my mutual friend convinced us to try out.

Said friend says it was like figuring out what font would do best for a movie poster.

Something tells me said friend is oversimplifying things.

Soon I found out that repeating Film 113 would be impossible because of the two available class schedules, one was being taught by Sir Daza, which was out of the question, and the other one being taught by the Legendary By Word Of Mouth Sir Nap was closed, thanks to... Bia, and the rest of my friends who got lucky during the class lotteries.

Then, Production Design under Sir Banal Yason (not ~banal~, it means 'holy'; pronounce it like 'canal', not 'anal') was apparently a wish of death, with students required to completely and realistically redecorate whole conference rooms into any possible setting. Everyone was raving about their Yason classes, but I decided to pass on redecorating class. Fierce professors aren't quite enough of an incentive for me to lose sleep over furniture.

Remember me getting Incomplete for Film 113 last year under Sir Daza? WELL. I found out an INC meant academic probation for a semester.

SECRETARY: oh it's ~nothing~, you actually need ~two whole probations~ to even get kicked off your course! everything will be fine! and when you pull your grades up, we'll wipe this little mark of shame off of your record!
JOSEPH: i love that! it's not like I'd let myself slide to a 2.75 grade average or tell my-
SECRETARY: your parents have to sign this.
JOSEPH: ...you do want me to turn up alive for my classes don't you

At the moment, I'm trying to get my dad alone, because even if he is the crazier fundamentalist (relatively speaking), he works fine under pressure, unlike Satan, whose millions of tiny Scales of Doom could tip in anyone's my disfavor in a split second. We will see.

Other wonderful people guest-starred: Judd, Ilsa, and Kim A; others cameoed: Sam, Kim C, Bryce, Melai, Aleli, Jervi and his son Zion (seriously), and... the Others.

I feel like I got to know Bia all over again over the two lunches we had, and the walks between MassComm and Fine Arts, where we got Copywriting under a professor who was reluctant to let ~non Fine Arts majors~ into his class. We talked about where we'd be when we graduated (VIP stars), the machinations (IKR?) of love (unfathomable), what we wanted (...love), photography, and, as usual, light. She was the first real comfort I had in awhile.

Something tells me I'd have fallen for her long ago if I swung that way. Love you, Bia!

bia, day out, uni, long day
