a one

Right now, nothing is more interesting for me than a first conversation with someone. There's the newness, the cluelessness, and the possibility of anything happening in the next five minutes. In five minutes, we could be talking, drinking, arguing, or fumbling each other's pants, or well, moving on to other people. I love those possibilities.

Whenever I introduce myself to someone, I make sure they generally know enough of me by the time the conversation ends. It's a bit like an audio-visual, interactive calling card, telling the person that, say, hi I'm Joseph, I only look 16 but I'm quite legal in most territories, I love photography, and I'm most probably interested to know you because why on earth would we be talking in the first place, among other things. This goes both ways, as I try to tease as much as I can out of the person. You're Chinese? So am I, at least genetically! You love opera? Great, I don't, but let's talk about that because your opinions might change mine! You're a mortician? Fabulous! My grandfather's old, here's my number! Something like that.

So here's the thing. Sometimes it doesn't work, but my talking to you means that I'm doing my best to be both interesting enough for you, and interested enough in you, so reciprocate.

can i just say, the thinking place
