It has been incredibly warm for the past few days. Anna and I have taken innovative steps for staying cool in our apartment, which lacks central air and is also a magnet for heat from other sources besides nature.
For example, the apartment building beside us does have central air. But their fan is outside and below our Secret Place Veranda Patio Deck area. So the door is hot to the touch because all the hot air from the outside AC fan blows right through there. So this evening I hung two large pieces of fabric over the glass door in hopes that they will block out some of the heat radiating through it.
Also, curtains have been hung in all rooms to prevent excessive sunlight from coming through. The sun is a wonderful life giving thing, but anything in too great a measure can be a bad thing.
Fans have been placed strategically so that the single little ac unit in the livigin room window doesn't work it's little heart out for nothing. It can't cool the whole apartment, so we have hung a sheet up in the hallway to divide the apartment in half, keeping our bedrooms and the living room relatively cool (if the fans are placed strategically).
Spraying all cloth surfaces with water helps too.
Also drinking lots of water. And eating lots of cold fruit mmmmmmm.
Taking advantage of those who do have AC is also another way of living in the heat. But we don't do that too often. ;)
I found out today that my car didn't pass inspection. For the first time in my short life, my car didn't pass. MD is a little tighter in their qualifications for passing a vehicle, so I should not have been surprised. The cost surprised me, to the extent that I drove the car back home tonight so Dad can work on it before Sunday, when I'll pick it up (I guess).
The service man tried to plant the little idea in my head that I should trash my car. I wanted to punch him in the face, if only he had said that in person and not over the phone. My car runs fine. It runs fine. It stops when it's supposed to. It goes when it's supposed to. It goes at the speed I tell it to go. It doesn't leak anything. It starts. It stays running. It is well maintained.
So yeah, he was hoping I'd buy a new Saturn (it was a dealership that I had dropped it off at) and man that ticked me off. Almost more than the cost of it did when I heard it.
Work is busy but enjoyable.
I saw Nickel Creek and Fiona Apple in concert last week and it rocked. The company was also enjoyable!
I have not been sleeping well...will try to go to sleep early tonight.
