I think I like the Midwest.
Now hold on all you angst filled little punk rockers who hate their town. I didn't say I liked my town or the people. I said I think I like the Midwest.
I've been pondering this as of late. I think that living in the Midwest is like being invisible. They call us the flyover states after all. And from what I can gather the east and west coasts catch an awful lot of shit. They're on the map. Think of America and you think of The Statue of Liberty and you think of Hollywood. Fuck that. I like the midwest because it's like being Mad Max in some terminal wasteland. Nobody knows about me out here. I like that just fine. Leave me alone. Let me be. It's the art of surprise.
It's the midwest. We like our music loud and our beer domestic. If the Dorals go up in price we go for the Pall Malls. We buy our jeans at Wal Mart and with the money we saved there we put it towards that insurance payment on our car or paying off our textbooks. We opt for gas station coffee when Starbucks is across the street. We like our country music to sound like rock and our rock music to sound like country. You're never the last in line at a McDonalds drive thru. Our highways are quiet and somber. Our theater is dangerous. We are everywhere, yet we are nowhere.
I think about this. I don't know.
