New York, New York (sung by a gremlin dude)

yess. back from the big apple! besides catching a cold there, fainting, and missing another day of school, im pretty lucky. make-up work wasn't as excruciating as i expected; two days out of the week i missed of school was put aside for the CAHSEE testing and the bomb threat on friday pretty much shut the school down.

well of course, a week across the country spent with IRC people has got to be interesting. i felt like i got to bond with most everyone, which is like discovering the story behind each book that you usually only see the cover to at first. haha, all i can say is that it makes me all sentimental inside.

-special me, i got seated with our adivsors (aka "temporary mommy/daddy") on the flight there and back. ahaha, they jacked up the dinner bill by ordering wine and then made us pay communist style, but you gotta love em.

-we did a lot of walking the first two days, but no one really complained. no one really dared.

-apperently, you can't take pictures of the jewelrey at Tiffany's for security reasons, or of the inside of a cathedral when a sermon is in session...my bad.

-the empire state building is a scam.

-we got to go in the real UN building for opening ceremonies...i used the bathroom there. hehee.

-i should have talked more in comittee. or shut mitch up (impossible!). ahaha, the dude got love notes in forms of poems/metaphors and one note came from a guy.

-we won a school award! as madame brags, it's a pretty big deal since the conference is national and even some international students from africa, italy, brazil, etc., attended. i wasn't really surprised that we won something, but maybe i should have been since everyone was shocked speechless.

-after they gave us a "you're so special speech", madame/phipps designed a scavenger hunt for us and we ran around new york racing in teams. the first group to reach a pastry shop in little Italy would get free dessert. ooo, adrenalin rush! justin led my group(we totally owned nitt's group)

-we saw Rent, but half of the people who didn't go were with Phipps and won free tickets to see a movie premier and met movie stars? like what?

-a few italian guys made a remark that became everyone's favorite new catch phrase:

"justin, ee iz a reeal mahn. meetch, ee iz a mEtrosEexsual!"

i'm grateful for this trip, especially since my parents are frugal and won't pay for any other school trip. in several ways, it was a "life changing event" that it was claimed to be. i loved the experience and everything i got from it. i wonder what it will be like two years from now, assuming that i will still have the chance to go. hopefully, the club will still be lively as ever, filled with spirited individuals who are interesting in their own way. yess...because i think i need to read more stories behind the cover, y'know?
