So I just got into work and so far so good, of course I’ve only been here for about 10 minutes.
I don’t know if I’ve talked too much about the new job. It’s not that new anymore; I’ve been working here since January, but I’m working for Ameriprise Financial. Basically I work for three Financial Advisors as their SSC (Sales Support Coordinator) which really means I’m their Administrative Assistant. I have to say so far that the job has been great, for various reasons. First off, I work with MaryEllen (YAY!) Are desks are right next to each other, which is the best as far as I’m concerned! Second the money is very good and the hours are very easy, for now. Third and lastly, the three advisors I work for are all very nice, for the most part. I haven’t had any major “situations” with them. They are as normal as you can expect and usually they are so busy that I don’t see them that much anyway.
Oh and the office is so nice too! It’s brand new so it’s pretty impressive… quite a change from the University, even when we moved office building’s my junior year it still wasn’t great!
So yeah, in a nutshell not bad at all. The only downside is that it’s ALL Men!! Seriously there are only two women advisors in the whole office!
Other than that it’s just the four admin’s up front and the rest are all guys! 28 to be exact. I guess you could consider it great single girl territory (although many are married or have girlfriends). I think it’s intimidating as hell! Having three brothers, I know men pretty well, as far as how they think and talk, esp. about women… so sometimes I can’t help feeling like I’m talked about or even judged. It’s probably all in my head… like everything else I suppose, but it’s hard to shake it. I’m sure once I get more comfortable here, then it won’t bother me as much.
Moving along…
I have a show opening this weekend. Macbeth for Ghostlight Theater Co. of New England. Amazing group, with many talented people running the organization. The show is going to be really good. It’s bloody and really brutal. Oh and interestingly enough Macbeth and Macduff are played by women. I don’t think I would have made similar casting choices, it’s hard to imagine Macbeth being played by anyone other than a man… but our Macbeth is doing a really, really great job. It’s believable anyway. Lady Macbeth is also a woman and yes, they do kiss very passionately… yada, yada… I don’t think that’s something I could do, but I applaud the two of them for going for it and making it so convincing. I play Lady Macbeth’s, lady in waiting, it’s a great little part and I get to be savagely murdered on stage by Macbeth which is kind of cool. I’ve never had to die on stage before, so it’s a new little challenge for me.
The show opens this weekend, in Concord. Tech week starts tonight, and it will be slightly tough on me only b/c of the driving distance and getting home pretty late. Oh well nothing I haven’t handled before… That’s all for now, back to work.
