Ramblings

I've been thinking lately about the essence of the music I like. I love music with passion. My favorite singers are the ones who sing with all of their voice. They sing like it's the only way they can get the junk out of their souls that we all carry. I've noticed that this carries over to the kind of people I really enjoy. I feel a strong need to be around people who know what they love and love what they do. One of my mentors, Alicia, lights up when she starts talking about nature. I have a term that I use to describe the way people feel when they have this sensation. I refer to it as 'soul singing.'

Soul singing is that rush you get when you know what you're doing is right and it's good and that there's nothing you'd rather be doing. I get it when I sing (hence the name). I get it when I run, climb, jump, lift heavy things, breath clean air, solve a difficult problem. I absolutely love seeing other people experience this emotion though. My doctor makes me smile because she obviously loves what she does.

And I have this desire to help people find the things that makes their soul sing. I feel like there are different levels of it. The feeling I get when I finish running 13 miles is much deeper than the one I get when I sing a song while I'm driving. The feeling I get when I'm solving lots of problems is even more meaningful. I think that everyone has something they can do that will really bring them depth and fulfillment in life.

Do you have an activity that makes your soul sing?
Do you know someone who makes your soul sing?
