As some of you know....As of about 1:00PM today, I am the father of an 8 pound 14 ounce baby girl named Rowan Grace Siobhan (Pronounced Shivaun). Mom is doing great. Natural, drug-free, non-induced labor. No tearing.
After she was born, she was taken away to get some tests done because she was "Stunned" (Actual words of the Doctor) due to the 5 hours of hard labor. She was crying a bit before they took her away to the nursery, so we knew she was breathing.
We found out that she has some Merconium(sp?) in her lungs(Pee and poo in the amniotic fluid), and an infection. Mel had tested positive earlier for a strain of Strep that can be passed to the baby. The Pediatrician started Rowan on antibiotics for that as well as a broad spectrum of other potential newborn infections. They are doing lab work on her blood, and it will be 48 hours before we get an answer on what infection she does have. She is in the nursery under a little bubble hood where they are pumping a "Drip" of oxygen. She looks like an Astronaut...LOL
Mom will be in the hospital for the next 48 hours because of testing positive, but Rowan wil be in for at least 7 days because of the antibiotic treatment.
Right now, we are all resting and and about ready to pass out. I will post pictures in the next day or 2.
Got the wrong weight...She was 9 pounds 4 ounces.
