Welcome to another year.
I did everything I could yesterday to not make a reference about the passing year being a year of suck, as is my wont. And hey, I succeeded! I wanted to downplay the negativity and instead look ahead at what this year has the potential to bring all of us. (Get me, I'm Tony Robbins!)
As usual, The Mister and I didn't do much yesterday. He worked (triple time!) and I visited with a good friend and her daughter, settling in at a local restaurant and yak-yak-yakking for a couple of hours over lunch. We moved the party to her living room where I lost track of time, finally hopping to around 5:00. My attempts at rushing home were thwarted by the weather and two horrific accidents; I averted my eyes as I drove past and thanked TPTB that I wasn't the one waiting for an ambulance or a tow truck.
I rammed Pepe through the terrific drift at the end of the lane, bemoaning my lack of snowshoes as I shuffled to the front door. In no time flat I had dinner in the oven (Lemon Garlic Tilapia and Lime/Coriander Basmati Rice), so we grabbed the timer and tromped next door to wish the neighbours HNY with a huge bag of my Nuts and Bolts and a bottle of Chilean red. We had a great catch-up session while the kids kept bringing me their Christmas gifts to ogle one by one. I hugged them all (even the squirmy ones) and we headed back home to eat.
I fell asleep around 9:30 and woke to Shrek 2 at 11:30. Managing to keep my eyes open for the final half hour, we stepped out onto the front porch to take a pause and appreciate our surroundings in what is becoming our new tradition, then hit the sack.
Today has been restful and will continue that way. Crock pot chili burbles away in the kitchen and the dogs are napping on our feet as we watch the Corner Gas marathon on the Comedy Network. In stark contrast, our neighbours have unleashed the awesome power of their SkiDoo, making crazy tracks throughout the village. To each his own, I guess; I prefer paging through my Special Feature bon appetit magazine to hypothermia of the face.
This has been a
Holidailies entry.
