After a day of snowsqualls, car accidents (not mine), disappointments and achievements, I found myself pulling (well, ramming Pepe over the plow-carved hump of snow at the end of the lane) into my driveway 12 hours after leaving it. Travel today was brutal - I was a total mook when I didn't even take my boss up on it when he suggested I leave early ( Read more... )

So glad to hear Terry is free at last! I don't know if I ever caught what happened to him in the first place to break his jaw, though - what was it? This ordeal sounds so major.

I made him go to the dentist for the first time in forever back in July. My dentist, bless him, found a small dark crescent on his x-rays, prompting him to make the referral to the fine folks at Interface (surgeons, braces, etc.) to do some further investigation. They found an abcessed widsom tooth with a cyst the size of a grape under it, eating away at his jawbone.

Basically, if they hadn't operated he would have broken his jaw doing something as simple as eating a sandwich a few months down the line, releasing the pus from the abcess and causing him to become septic. At least we know the cyst is benign as well, which is a relief.

It's been quite an anxiety-ridden six weeks, so it has. I haven't decorated, done cards or anything Christmasy because dealing with this has been way more time-consuming than I could have imagined, and I wasn't even the one with the wired-up mouth! (Although I'm willing to bet there are people out there who wouldn't have minded a couple weeks of quiet from yours truly...)

Wow, that's intense. Good to hear they caught it and fixed it when they did, but sorry it has been so stressful. I would imagine it's a huge adjustment in food prep.

Here's to 2009 being more focused on chewing! Super-fast healing and jaw-strength vibes to Terry.
