Went to the ballet last night for the first time ever and it was SIIICK! I was easily the youngest person there by about 50 years but we had spin almost front row tickets next to all these famous scientists, ex-performers, producers and what not. Didn't have a clue!

Four performances, Orchestra in the 'pit' (always wondered where the term mosh pit came frm!), the acoustics were filth.

First up "the forgotten land". 12 dancers in long flowing dresses and men in puffy shirts dancing around to lush music. My eyes were darting across the stage trying to absorb everything, the elegance, the style, the symetry, the accuracy of the whole performance. The music flows... escalates and I was exhausted by the first interval.

Second was "stepping stone" an egyptian theme: men in little fitted boxers and women in sexy black couture numbers... bodies to absolutely DIE for. This was equally spectacular but with not as much music, long and hard to follow I was a bit twitchy by the end.

Third was "Petite Morte" but actually had little to do with death. Divine outfits, Mozart that made you flow in time with the music at the same rate that the dancers fleeted across the stage, round and back again. There was a circle of light that they kept dancing around and I somehow managed to get Gunners 'Get in the Ring' in my head.

The final piece was "Sechs Tanze" and was fun. Men in knickerbockers and wigs (like judges wear) and women in white peasent dresses and powder in their hair that went everywhere and made everyone laugh. They were more like elegant gollywogs on stage. Mozart in the background and I had a smile from ear to ear. Clapped till my hands were sore

My first ballet experience was truth! I just wish I had a better vocab to describe the experience better.

Im out. Friday arvo. Beer time. M x
