This is completely colored by the fact that it's from Mohinder's P.O.V., and we know he has a temper and that he jumps to conclusions.
Oh man, I am so far gone on Mohinder, hearing stuff like "he has a temper" and "he jumps to conclusions" just makes me love him like crazy. <3
So, there's a completely domestic crisis, but it stresses both Matt and Mohinder to the point that it breaks everything open and they just can't keep on. And because of his citizenship, Matt thinks he can trump Mohinder...but he underestimates Mohinder's drive to Do The Right Thing, and his anger.
Matthinder: it's like war, really. And yeah, this just seems infinitely plausible to me. Somewhere down the line, this family unit is going to break up, and it's because Matt and Mohinder don't like each other, refuse to support each other, and if one is in a dangerous situation (my mind immediately goes, of course, to a Mylar team-up), the other's reaction will be to take Molly and skedaddle. However, what I really liked about this fic was that it wasn't really over something catastrophic like Sylar returning or the new big bad arriving in town or whatever, it was Molly going over to a friend's house without telling them; a hundred little moments of stress pile up, and all of a sudden the entire family is broken. It's a little chilling.

Going off on a tangent...I would love to see this sort of thing come to pass. Because if there was something that caused Mohinder and Sylar to work together, I could see Mohinder extracting a promise from Sylar not to harm Molly, and buy it - I can completely see Sylar agreeing to it in canon for the simple reason that he's weighed the possibilities and realized that getting Mohinder's assistance for whatever he's doing is more beneficial than braaains. And that also could be the start, in canon, of turning him away from just collecting abilities, by getting him accostomed to pursuing a goal besides braaains.
This is another reason the heal-anything blood bugs the crap out of me. One of my "I'd-love-to-see" scenarios is, Sylar and Mohinder cooperating, someone special getting killed by whoever they're going up against, and Sylar going to take their brain, and Mohinder protesting that he promised not to do that. And Sylar then saying, quite dispassionately, "He's dead. He cannot be saved. Why should we let his ability die with him? If I take it, I can use it in this fight, and Peter can get it from me and use it as well." I'd just like to see Mohinder wrestle with that dilemma, since it's a logical argument, and see if he would accept it.

I've seen a few relationships disintegrate just like this: it's nothing horrific, just a thousand little slights and stresses that pile up until something silly becomes the straw that breaks the camel's back. And it's so much more emotionally powerful and disquieting than when there's some massive emergency, because that's how relationships often fall apart in real life.

I'd absolutely love to see this as well. Anything that has Sylar and Mohinder as grudging allies equals win in my book. Just imagining their interactions is giving me happy shivers, and on the plus side, there'd by typical Mylar domestic scenes like "Sylar brings Mohinder Chinese takeout". Also, if you're right and this causes Sylar to become a little less obsessed with brains? LOL subtext.

Ooh, that would be interesting, and might even be likely, since if Mohinder chooses to side with Sylar to accomplish some kind of greater goal, the storyline would already involve his ethical compromises in the face of survival. Having Mohinder cope with all of Sylar's less-than-pleasant, ah, quirks, would be a natural offshoot of that. And yeah, the heal-anything blood is SO. ANNOYING.
