Actually, it wasn't what I expected either when I started writing. But I decided that Sylar would put an immense amount of effort into figuring out how best to punish Peter for daring to be more "special" than him. And Sylar may avoid his own emotions, but he's still able to understand that hurting Peter's family would cause Peter far more pain than hurting Peter himself.

I still don't know, though, if Sam really is normal and Sylar's just planning on twisting and breaking him...or if Sam coincidentally turned out to have the same power that Gabriel Gray did and the Petrellis and Mohinder know this, and Sylar's now discovered it and is leading him down the same murderous path...

Wow, that was both fantastic and creepy. I like this means of revenge that Sylar takes on, it seems fitting that he would decide to go this angle instead of trying to keep attacking Peter himself. I also liked the dialogue between Sam and Sylar, once again he proves to be the master of manipulation.

Great job!

I kind of invented this future as I was writing the fic, but I thought that Sylar would eventually reach a point where his survival instincts would win out over his ego and he'd know that he had enough enemies, he would have to fade into the background and be cautious about his actions. He'd never give up on looking for a way to punish Peter for being more "special", though. And if Peter had a kid, he'd definitely realize that the best way to hurt Peter would be by hurting his only child ( ... )

I was going to ask if you were hinting all along at Sam having IA, but I figured that you were leaving it open-ended on purpose? That's the feeling I got from it anyway, especially because of the reveal that Mohinder didn't finding anything in the tests. If you're thinking about continuing this, I think you could go in many different directions with it - I actually read what if he came across a skullcapped body, and his own son was standing next to it and smiling? as Sylar having killed Sam, but when I re-read it correctly I got chills. That would be the perfect twist in Sylar's fate, to have the same thing happen to him. And it's the only kind of "Sylar as 'parent'" storyline that I could actually get on board with ^^

I like the idea that, in the future, Sylar will force himself to slip into the background because he's got to realize sooner or later that he can't keep being so damn conspicuous. I mean, we all know he loves to make a scene, but I also think that he values his own life over his need to be "special". To me, the ( ... )

Man. I really intended this to be a one-shot, but after reading the comments from you guys, my brain is trying to write more. *shakes head at self*

And it's the only kind of "Sylar as 'parent'" storyline that I could actually get on board withThis is part of why I was so vehement in the discussion at TWoP about what a bad idea it would be to have Sylar become a father on the show: I'd already thought about that concept while writing this. I had a moment where I thought maybe Sam actually was Sylar's kid, and the other Heroes had hidden his existence and raised him as a Petrelli, but Sylar had finally found out the truth and was coming to get him. But...NO. My other opinions on this aside, the point of this fic is that Sam is a Petrelli, and Peter adores his son even more than his brother even though they have conflict over teenage angst and Sam's desperate desire to have powers like the rest of the family. If that isn't in there, than the emotional impact on Peter when he eventually finds out about this won't be nearly as ( ... )

Oh my. What an unusual and interesting idea. I can only imagine what sort of situation would arise from this- of all the multitudes of Sylar fics out there- this is one of the few to make me say "oh, you cold bastard!".

*applauds*

Much as I love Sylar, and much as I enjoy fics that slowly and believably bring him back to being human, there are times when I just have to face the fact that this is the man who smiled to himself as he stood over Dale's body in that garage in Montana and listened to Mohinder's panic attack, and write about that.

Of course, when I think about what poor Sam's probably going to end up being like, I feel the need to go write some nice fluffy Mylar crack about baking cookies for Molly's upcoming visit or something, in penance for the creepiness...

Thank you!!!

Oh shit! That's quite a little revenge scheme Sylar has cooked up for the Petrelli family. Good to know that even in his old age he hasn't lost any bit of hia manipulativeness.

I got busy last week and a lot of comments languished in my email - till now...

I think if Sylar survives to 50, he'd be pretty much exactly the same as he is now: a little greyer, a bit slower, but just as devious and skilled at playing with people's minds. I really hope he doesn't decide to go after Mohinder next.

Thanks a lot!!!
