Oh yes! Exactly! The fact that he has to justify it should tell him that it's a bad idea, but he wants it so badly he's not going to let himself consider that, any more than he did when he was just murdering specials. When he went to get Adam's power, all he could see was that this would make him godlike. It wasn't till he had already taken the power--till it was too late--that he really thought about all the ramifications of it. And I do think he's thinking that even if Mohinder is furious with him, sooner or later he'll wear Mohinder down and get him back. He'll have all the time in the world for that.
Despite his intelligence and mental agility, Sylar's got a streak of childishness, and that's the piece that has a vision that he and Mohinder could be together forever, egged on by Mohinder's wish (though he doesn't realize it). I think Mohinder would react extremely badly, though I think his anger would be as much due to realizing just how much Sylar was hiding from him as to having his DNA tampered with. Mohinder's letting himself hope that they could have a future together, which is just encouraging Sylar in his quest, but this would be such a betrayal of trust on all levels that I don't know if Sylar could coax Mohinder past it. But that desperate wish to have Mohinder with him forever is going to make him ignore that possibility.
Thanks a lot. I love your comments; it's so wonderful to see that the things I was trying to get at, are coming through to readers.
