Hurricane Katrina Update
All Miami-Dade County public schools and adult education centers will be
closed on Monday, August 29, due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina. All
previously scheduled meetings, workshops, extracurricular activities and
athletic events have also been canceled for Monday, August 29.
The following Miami-Dade County Public Schools employees should report to
work on Monday, August 29: all District office employees; Regional Center
non-instructional employees; all principals, assistant principals, and other
site administrators; all Information Technology employees; all clerical
staff; all Maintenance Department employees; all custodial employees; all
full-time and part-time Food Service employees; and all Miami-Dade Schools
Police and security employees.
The following employees should not report to work: Teachers, teachers on
special assignment, paraprofessionals, student services personnel (such as
guidance counselors, media specialists, social workers, and psychologists),
bus drivers and bus aides.
Employees are urged to use caution on the way to and on the way home from
work, as many traffic signals are still not functioning.
Students, parents and employees of the school district should tune in to
local TV and radio stations, including WLRN-TV Channel 17 and WLRN-FM 91.3,
for any updates. The school district's website, www.dadeschools.net, and
the District's hotline, 305-995-3000, will also provide updated information.
