This is something I heard on the radio this morning, but I found this on the Houston Chronicle website:

A parent's concerns prompted the district 150 miles northeast of Houston to scrap its annual "TWIRP Day" -- when boys dress like girls and girls dress like boys-- in favor of "Camo Day ( Read more... )

okay, texas has good people. it really annoys me when people make generalizations about certain areas of the country based on a small amount of people who do things there.
it's just dumb.

I screened sultanitm's comment because it was over-the-top and posted by someone else posing as Willie.

The more appropriate parts of the comment were as follows:

"You can say that until people from that state drag a relative of yours behind a car because of the color of his skin! Then you just get pissed off at the people who do not want the Texans purged!

There are confederate flags flying everywhere in texas."

you know what, there are terrible people everywhere. I don't care if you want to get rid of people, I support that. but don't drag down the good people too.

I know, and I try not to do it, it just seems like the overwhelming majority of Texans fit into the conservative, homophobic, evangelical christian stereotype. I know it's a stereotype, and I'm sure that there are plenty of good texans, it's just that they don't seem to show their face much. As I re-read my post, I'm struck by the forcefulness I put into my feelings about texas. I don't think I really feel that way, I was just angry when I wrote the entry.

i have known quite a few texans, living for years in a state that borders it. and they all share this sentiment; "the best view i ever got of texas was the sight of it in my rear-view mirror" they said the good texans could leave! ;?)
