last night in Philly I saw an adorable sparkly red
smart car! Such a happy sight. They're not supposed to be available in the US until 2008, so perhaps this is a special import, but -- I hadn't laid eyes on one since I was in Europe 8 years ago!
At the end of the DVD extras to Morrissey's
Who Put the M in Manchester, I was pleased, then shocked, then terrified to find/watch the
PETA video 'Meet Your Meat'. It's like the slaughterhouse parts of Sinclair's
The Jungle, in sound & video... I ended up switching to 2X, then 4X, up to 32X normal speed, and still I was traumatized. My only reassurance was reminding myself that I've been a vegetarian (mostly lacto/ovo, with occasional forays into veganism and "fisho/chicko"-ism) for about 18 years now (more than half my life)...
and finally, a quote from this
article on organic farming: "I just like to see things grow. It's an amazing miracle of Nature - a sense of wonder - you put a seed in the ground, tend it a bit and it turns into a red, ripe tomato or a beautiful head of lettuce. With organics we are able to do things we feel good about, things that are good for the overall health of the farm."
