I've been wearing bifocals for a couple months. I'm grateful for the technology of corrective lenses, but they're annoying. The lenses that allow for far vision aren't good for seeing at arm's length, and the other way around. The exact placement of the magnifier part of the lens can both make it easy to read comfortably and also make normal surroundings look overly fuzzy. I now switch between two pairs of glasses, each of which has advantages and drawbacks for reading, using a computer, being around the house, driving, walking outside, etc. And I bob my head around like a chicken, so I can look through the right part of the lens for what I'm trying to do.
I have to consciously choose what I can see, and what to let be on the unfocused periphery. As a visual artist, I find this fascinating, and I'm curious how I will use ordinary seeing as momentum to define and hone my art.
