So, in a way, we can actually consider most 60's/70's leftist terrorism to be international in origin, not domestic. In the same way that the NYC car bomber is considered international, not domestic, despite being a naturalized citizen.

Yup. Leftist terrorism is internationalist in spirit, usually, and often in origin as well. The Right Wing is 100% American and willing to kill other Americans. And in any case Leftie terrorism doesn't exist in the modern era, as violence in the political spectrum is almost purely a right-wing thing. As I've said elsewhere Right and Left are not equal.
