Ha, well, I started something for this last night...and well, saved over it.
First week of spring term is over, and I'm enjoying my classes more than I did at this point than in the previous two terms...I believe that Nafshun and Hill can take the credit for that. This week, however, has felt molasses speed slow, and I'm hoping that things will speed up after this weekend. Also, along with enjoying my classes, I'm also more intimidated by the workload than before. I didn't think a credit would make a difference, but I think it's mostly the workload for English in combination with being required to get on the ball with the chemistry project right away. In addition to those things, I am a little nervous about making it to all of the HHS labs on time at 8am. Not having a margin to screw up like I do for biology or physics (my 8am classes in the past) worries me.
I'm currently in a car, a few minutes south of the Washington-Oregon border, headed home at 2:30ish. Yesterday was fairly...bland. Oh, about the ellipses dots: I learned in English the other day that you only grammatically correctly use them when you're leaving something out. Which, Professor Hill pointed out that it's amusing to wonder what people could be leaving out when they use ellipses dots without intended to leave stuff out...which that use is common in the current, including by myself. So I typed that, reread that, and thought, "Yesterday was fairly stupid and craptastically bland." However, stupid and craptastically bland isn't how I'd really describe yesterday for me. Hence, just using bland in the actual statement. Moving on...
I printed out my notes for biology...and forgot to take them to class. So for the first time, I kept my laptop open during class and typed my notes to write down on my printed notes later. And that worked out okay.
For chemistry, Professor Nafshun told us that he had the most spectacular demonstration that we'd ever see for us that day. He walks up to the back of the room and turns off all of the lights. Goes back to the front of the room, behind the counters, and says, "you won't be impressed." Immediately following that, he turned on a flashlight. Then he walks back to the back of the room, and turns the light back on. We're discussing electrochemistry in lecture now.
Oh, Thursday had an interesting episode in the middle of the day. For chemistry lab, we made potassium oxalate crystals for the second time in the honors chem sequence in place of no chemistry lab. This is so we could do analysis on them later. We did this in place of recitation...well, we had a short recitation to introduce the new undergrad TA, the new graduate TA, and the people new to the class for this term. Therefore, I got finished with the lab when our lab was actually supposed to start: at 2. It was while I was walking down the stairs and pulling out my phone to call Jimmy (I told him I'd call after chemistry lab) that I remembered that 1. Jimmy was on a northbound Greyhound bus from Eugene, 2. The bus departs Eugene somewhere between 12:45 and 1:00 pm, 3. It gets to Corvallis around 2 and takes a 5 minute break, 4. It's currently 2:00, 5. I can walk to the bus station in about 10 minutes. So I called Jimmy, not only to say hi, but to also ask about the location of the bus. If it was at all running late, I'd be able to see him while the bus was stopped in Corvallis. I also started walking in the direction of the bus station just in case. Well, Jimmy doesn't pick up his phone...on the third call, I left him a message. I walk past a couple more streets and look down to find 3 missed calls on my phone. Called him back, he didn't pick up. Then I got the message of a new voice mail. I listened to that and was informed that he was in Corvallis at the time of the call and I was still about 2 blocks off. So I started running, and got there with 1-2 minutes to see Jimmy and act like a total lovebird. But hey, I think that 1-2 minutes was worth it. I called him shortly after he got back on the bus to have the conversation I actually planned to have after chem lab, so that was spiffy.
Back to yesterday, I got the call from Jon that he would pick me up soon a little after 1:30. So I packed up my laptop and stuff. Remembered some last minute things. I went downstairs at the second phone call...I was amused to see him wandering in the direction of Callahan because....apparently, he thought I lived there. Yeah, no.
Traffic was horrible...I think we were past Salem by then (I fell asleep for less than an hour after 30-40 minutes of driving). And then the normal horrible traffic on 217. So our drive time was extended to 2.5 hours. And when I got there, it was pretty much watching Jon or Vern play Kingdom Hearts II and playing Doom II until midnight. Which, I was surprised to find out that Vern played Doom and recognized what I was playing (but he asked which version it was). When I got bored enough after dinner, (which was chicken tenders and fries from Carl Jr....yeah, I was thinking that that was bland when I was eating it, too) I drew Amilliss and messed around in Finale to write a chorale type thing for flute, clarinet and trumpet.
About the drawing, Amilliss is a senior officer in my crew on Midnight in puzzle pirates. Another of our SOs, Feegle, asked me to sketch pictures of certain characters for a project of his.
Today, Jon asked me if I wanted anything from Starbucks and/or Subway. I took the offer of Subway, and told him I wanted a 6-inch sweet onion teriyaki sandwich. A few minutes later, he yelled up the stairs asking what kind of bread I wanted. I told him garlic...meaning roasted garlic. He says, "garlic? There is no garlic." I thought, Oregon subways are losers...bah, no garlic. Or maybe Jon just can't remember. Anyway, I took wheat, which was actually really good. I might order wheat more often.
