Oi. This dream had so many people I recognized in it too. Apparently, Tami brought the jazz ensemble to perform at my church. I wasn't really in the band, but I was backstage watching them; Steph was with me. They were setting up and getting ready to go. Interesting instrumentation, too. John on trumpet, Kyle on bass, Pat and Chris on tenor, Kelsey on alto, somebody on trombone, Stefan on fiddle, Ker on flute, someone on guitar and another on bass, Herna on drum set. Which then Tami asked if Steph wanted to play bass because apparently she played it for a different group and occasion. She said, "sure", and so they were switching her in at the last second. Then Keri said something about snowboarding and not wanting to play. So she got up, and Stefan got up with her and passed her as she walked off the stage to pat her on the back. I made a comment that he got up just to do that and he snapped that he was getting his other violin with an irritated expression on his face.
Mr. Johnson also played the tenor, and busted out in a solo thing with Herna to buy time while the band was still setting up (which I don't understand now that I'm awake, because they seemed ready to go to me). Then he started talking about his playing, and how he's able to do things that Jimmy could do on his trumpet, but how he has to do certain things with his mouth to do it on the sax (yeah, I don't know exactly what he meant now that I'm awake). This caused me to look around for Jimmy. And I found him sitting in the audience near the edge on the side I was on. So I went out to sit next to him. I found that he was somewhat hurt by what Mr. Johnson was saying about his playing. So I took him backstage with me.
About that time, someone got up in the audience and suddenly, the whole audience got up and headed for the stairs. I exchanged confused looks with Tami, and then with my mom, and we all rushed to bring people back. I dunno how they all got up the stairs that fast (since the audience had twice the number of people that normally show up for church and the normal number of people at church take forever to get up and down the stairs), but within a few seconds, I was staring into the Reverend Pratt room (the second floor for....everyone except Nik...well, maybe Nik too) where a lot of the people gathered for refreshments. Then I ran up the stairs again to the hondo (third/main floor) to find the rest of them....doing something.
I gave up trying to convince people to go back downstairs and went back to the band. Grabbed a microphone, and told the people that came back (about a third) how mean that was and how they weren't showing a lot of patience, that the people on the stage enjoy playing their instrument and were there to play for them and blah blah blah. I made a comment about people being squirrelly while someone in the audience was cracking jokes with the people around him and laughing (I think it was Brandon Y....looked a lot like him), "And someone is still being frickn squirrelly!" I yelled, and Brandon stopped laughing. Everyone else clapped. But they started talking amongst each other, too. So I gave up, frustrated. (I noticed though, that what was left of the audience was visibly split, half were normally dressed, a fourth had these BRIGHT neon pink jackets on while the other fourth had bright green jackets. I also noticed that none of the old people stayed).
I found myself sitting in service with Jimmy after someone side thing with him and my family...I can't remember details or I'd tell you about it. But anyway, the only thing here to note was that Donna was emcee for some reason, talking from the left side instead of the right. The hondo was rearranged...to save space as I remembered being told in my dream. I suppose it doesn't make much sense to explain the changes to most of you, but here it is anyway: the incense pot was moved to sit along the right wall. So the benches were arranged so that there was a row facing the east wall along the front, organ in the same place but the emcee stand moved in front of it (maybe that's why Donna was doing emcee) and a column of benches facing north along the east wall. Dunno how the west wall was taken care since that was behind me where I was sitting...which was on the corner of the aisle where it turned right to go to the incense pot. Whatever. I was watching Joey doing oshoko.
edit: I forgot to mention about this part that Donna was saying something, and ended with "Because we're Buddhists...I guess." She sounded tired...I had the feeling that she was still thinking about the stampede out during the jazz ensemble performance.
And then I woke up during the gatha...which is amusing looking back on it. The song was 'Buddha Loves You', which I recognize even from outside the dream. However, I heard it announced and was looking for in the gatha book for it as 'Hey Buddha'. And was pretty surprised when I looked in three books in our row at the H section and didn't find the book there. So I was singing the song from memory and Jimmy just stood there :P. Didn't finish the song before I woke up...which is actually fine by me (I find the song on the annoying side).
