Oh man! PEOPLE WROTE ME STUFF FOR MY BIRTHDAY FKLJFDSIA. You guys are awesome.
kadrin wrote
A Short Piece About Quistis in which there is some Quistis/Rinoa hints. I have wanted to read something like that for years. And
rionaleonhart has totally promised to write some Balthier/Fran/Jack Harkness (you know it will be awesome) and
thorne_scratch and
twigcollins put up a Pale Sky excerpt. Which, uh, very few of you know about, but it is so worth friending them and asking them about and reading.
Best birthday ever? The signs all point to yes.
I also got four different types of desserts, two restuarant meals, and a bunch of new books to read and video games to play. ROCK. I can't wait to play more of God of War II.
Also, I finally read Deathly Hallows. I'm not going to do a full out summary of thoughts, but in brief: FJKLDSFJKLFDS
Slightly less brief: I think I cried the most for Snape. And I'm slightly pissed off at how meaningless his death was and I knew he would turn out to be good and holy crap. His last words? And his memories bring so much meaning to his yelling at Harry in the sixth book, "I'M NOT A COWARD!" jklfdajsk
I still think he has the most character depth of anyone.
I cried second most for Fred. It's not that I have a lot of emotional investment in the twins. I mean, I like them quite a lot, but I've never really identified with them that much. But you can't just -- their twins, they've lived their whole lives together. I feel so bad for George. You just can't do that. It's worse than splitting up the couples. WHICH SHE DIDN'T DO. But it's perfectly okay to split up the twins, when they probably have the deepest bond of anyone in the entire series.
I really loved their reaction to the ear, though. ROCK ON, YOU GUYS. ROCK ON.
I don't know what to think about Dumbledore or his backstory. It's cool, that he got more depth, but... I kinda liked it better not knowing. Their talk at the end of the book didn't really... make Harry and Dumbledore's relationship okay again for me. I still feel weird about it, so I don't know.
I am angry that Ginny was stuck out of harm's way for most of the book! Mrs. Weasly kicking ass was awesome, though, absolutely awesome.
AND I AM SO ANGRY THAT STUPID HAGRID GOT TO LIVE AND SNAPE AND FRED DID NOT. WHAT. WHAT. I - I'm sorry, I just never really liked Hagrid that much. I hope that his romantic interest lived, though. And it was nice to see that he was actually right about his brother Grawp.
And I liked that the Malfoys were just lame people! Not evil, not even good or redeemed at the end, just kind of... there.
ALSO OH MAN NEVILLE ROCKS. AND LUNA ROCKS. So awesome.
...The final fight with Voldemort kind of confused me, as did all the stuff Harry and Dumbledore said while dead, but it was two in the morning.
Also also, I am unsure what to think of the epilogue. I'm glad she included it, I just... Harry and Ginny didn't seem to have much character other than We Are Parents Now.
And I think that's it!
ETA Spoilers behind the cut (of course) and also in the comments!
