(no subject)
I got nothing related to fandom this Christmas season! (At least, not yet. Baco and I are going to be doing our own Christmas sometime after New Year's. Maybe then? Something? I'm a little worried that we'll just buy each other the same things, but whatever. THAT IS WHAT GIFT RECEIPTS ARE FOR.)
Favorite gifts so far:
- KITCHEN ISLAND WOOT WOOT (haha, we will now have a place to put clean pots and pans that is not the stove top!)
- "Half moon" pizza slicer (do not laugh, it is amazing)
- 2 CDs of Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington live at the Cote D'Azur (I have recently been getting into 1920-30s jazz, and while this was made a few decades later, it is still awesome) (Seriously I am so excited to listen to this.)
- my favorite aunt's reading list of the best books she's read in the past 25 years (strangely enough, I haven't read any of the books on the list, EXCEPT for two - both of which I brought with me to read over Christmas break)
Speaking of excellent books, I highly recommend Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem. The main character has Tourette's syndrome, and it's just - I really enjoyed it. It's a sort of detective/mystery book and it's just. <3
And on the slightly depressing side of things, my grandpa didn't want to come to the Christmas festivities and asked my dad to bring him more booze. Mom and I are a little worried he's dealing with his sadness by just getting drunk, which is understandable but also dangerous, since he was probably drunk when he broke his pelvis a month ago. D:
(I should say that I think he is dealing with my grandma's death pretty well - I mean, he is talking about it a little bit, which is... something I didn't think he'd be able to do. And also he is an amazing fella - after breaking his hip in the middle of the night, trying to get to the bathroom, he somehow got off the floor and back into bed. And then got up in the morning and went into the next room to his recliner, where he waited until 10:00 to phone my apartments.)
Also, thorne_scratch and draegonhawke: I am still debating whether I should get a paid account, but I am definitely a step closer with the coupon. I really appreciate the offer and, uh, just wanted to let you know why it is taking so long. <3 <3 <3
