“They finally found the right vomit, and there they found the bullet,” Ducky concluded.
“Wow!” Jimmy laughed. “That’s got to be the oddest place we’ve ever recovered a bullet.”
“Oh, I suppose it’s in the top five,” Ducky conceded, “But certainly not the oddest.”
Jimmy, always eager to hear one of his boss’ stories, asked, “Really, Dr. Mallard? What were the other four?”
“Well, let’s see… I had a dickens of a time with one poor gentleman - a war veteran. I looked for that that bullet everywhere and, as it turned out it, had flattened against the steel plate in his head.
“Then there was the dear lady shot by her husband. The bullet literally went in one ear and out the other.
“One poor young fellow was executed with a bullet through the back of the head. The trajectory took the bullet through the sinus cavity and into the nasal passages, where its progress was halted by his nose ring. We had to pick his nose to recover the bullet.”
“Gross!” Jimmy exclaimed with an appreciative smile.
“But by far, the oddest was the man who was shot in the arm. The bullet fractured his humerus, severing the brachial artery, before lodging in the elbow joint. He bled out.”
Jimmy cocked his head like a confused puppy. “What’s so odd about that, Dr. Mallard?”
“Oh, I suppose I didn’t mention… Well, yes, you see, he was dressed as a clown. He died of a broken funny bone!”
