It Must Be Our Lucky Night

"No way," Sam whispered heatedly. "I'm not going to risk getting caught cheating these people."

"I don't like it either, but Jasec has a point," Daniel whispered back. "This is our best chance to get what we need to repair the ship."

"And if I lose or get caught, we lose the ship," Sam argued.

"I completely agree," Vala whispered emphatically. "It's too risky."

Both Daniel and Sam looked at Vala in surprise. "Let me get this straight," Daniel said quietly. "You don't want us to lie, cheat, and steal to get out of this situation?"

"Oh, no," Vala clarified. "I'm fine with lying, cheating, and stealing. It's the trusting-my-father part that concerns me. That is always a bad idea."

"I know." Daniel pushed up his glasses and rubbed his eyes tiredly. "I just don't see that we have another option."

Sam nodded resolutely. "Fine. We do this. Daniel, I want you at the table with me. Just play your cards and don't worry about losing. I'll make it all back by the end of the game."

Vala sat at the bar, keeping one eye on the phi'kot game and the other on her father. She trusted Sam's ability to count the cards - the woman was a math genius, after all, and Vala herself had taught Sam the game - and if this were any other game, any other place, Vala would've enjoyed seeing her straight-laced teammates running a con for once. But when Jasec was involved, nothing was ever what it seemed.

Already their ship had been vandalized by thugs intent on making Jasec stick around to pay a debt he owed, stranding Vala, Daniel, and Sam on this gateless backwater of planet. Jasec promised he'd introduce them to some friends who would help them. He'd procured the clothes they'd need to blend in ("Why is it always leather?" Daniel had complained as they left the ship. "It's eighty degrees out here.") and told them he'd set up a meet with this potential ally. Instead, he'd brought them to another local gambling operation, supposedly for Sam to win enough to repair the ship, but Vala didn't trust his motives for a minute.

Sam was already slowly accumulating winnings. Vala noticed that Sam was careful never to bet too large, or win too many hands in a row. She admired the technique, and couldn't help but wonder if her friend had done this kind of thing before.

Out of the corner of her eye, Vala caught sight of Jasec slipping quietly out of the room. She was torn. Was he really that bad at being sneaky, or was he being obvious on purpose to draw her outside? Should she go after him, or stay to watch over her friends?

While Vala was distracted wondering what Jasec was up to, the bartender he'd paid off served Daniel and Sam each a drink. "Courtesy of your lady friend," she told them. Daniel looked up to catch Vala's eye and found her staring at the door. He shrugged, sipped the drink, and returned to the game.

Sam was giggling uncontrollably and Daniel had fallen out of his chair laughing. Vala strolled over to the other side of the room and stood next to her father. She smiled sweetly as he put an arm around her shoulder, and they both watched her teammate’s antics with apparent enjoyment.

"What the hell did you do to my friends?" She asked under her breath, still smiling brightly.

"Vala, I am shocked and appalled that you could accuse me of such a thing," he swore, his expression of amusement never faltering.

"Do I need to mention to our gracious hosts that they may find their misplaced wallets in your inside coat pocket?" she asked sweetly, resting her head on her father's shoulder.

"It's just a little intoxicant," Jasec admitted. "I promised our hosts some easy marks, in exchange for... a favor I owed."

"You might have noticed, Father," Vala pointed out, hugging him a little too tightly, "that Sam is still winning. Even intoxicated, she's still got more than the sum total of intelligence of every male in this room."

"Vala," Daniel called to her from his place sprawled out on the floor. "Can I have another one of those drinky things? Those were tasty."

Sam stumbled and giggled her way to the ladies' room, and Vala followed. She quickly checked that they were alone.

"Sam, listen, you've been drugged."

"No," Sam said straightening up instantly, "but Daniel has. You need to get him out of here."

"How did you know?" Vala asked, fairly impressed by Sam's performance.

"It's a safety rule on Earth: you never drink anything in a bar that you didn't watch from the second it was poured."

"I guess Daniel doesn't know the rules," Vala said roll of her eyes.

Sam shrugged. "Daniel doesn't go to bars very often."

"But you let him drink it?"

"I needed to know what it would do so I could play along."

Now Vala was really impressed. If this SG-1 saving-the-universe thing fell through, she and Sam could make quite a tidy living for themselves.

"Get him out of here, will you? I'll finish up and meet you back at the ship."

Vala thought for a second about asking if Sam was sure she would be okay on her own - SG-1 never left a teammate without backup if they could help it - but she thought the better of it. How long had she been on her own in these types of situations? She wouldn't insult Sam by suggesting she was any less capable of handling herself. "Good luck," she said in parting and went to retrieve Daniel.

"I'm hot!" Daniel declared as Vala helped him back through the woods toward where the ship now lay cloaked.

While Vala was busy biting back the automatic lascivious comment, his arm left its place around her shoulders and he dropped his leather vest on the ground. Vala bent down to retrieve it. By the time she looked up, his shirt lay on a bush a few feet away and Daniel was ambling down the path in just a pair of tight leather pants.

"That's better!" he said cheerfully. Vala shrugged to herself; she couldn't argue - it really was better, in many senses of the word. She grabbed his shirt and followed after him. He turned a bend in the path and was out of her line of sight.

When Vala rounded the bend, Daniel was nowhere to be seen. "Daniel?"

"Right here," he said.

His voice was nearby, but she couldn't see him in the dark. "Where?" She took a few steps and turned in a circle. "ACK!" Vala jumped when something touched her ankle.

She looked down to find Daniel lying in the grass near her feet. "You can see the stars from here," he grinned.

Vala sighed, the adrenaline burst from being startled making her a little less amused with the situation. "Daniel, please get up."

"No."

"I've got some chocolate bars stashed in my pack back on the ship. If you come with me, I'll share them with you."

"No, you won't. You always horde the chocolate."

"I will this time, I promise. Please, Daniel?" she asked, offering her hand to help him up. Daniel grabbed her hand and she sighed in relief - then shrieked again as he pulled her down on top of him and rolled her into the grass.

Daniel leaned over her, smirking. "I wonder if you taste like all that chocolate you eat."

Vala took a moment to assess the situation. Daniel was drugged out of his mind, half-naked, and actually, genuinely making a pass. The little Daniel-voice in the back of her mind that she'd recently identified as her 'conscience' was telling her that this situation was bad. However, the rest of her - and particularly the portions of her that were pinned against his bare chest - seemed to think it was perfectly okay.

Then Daniel began nibbling his way from her earlobe to her shoulder. What the hell - she'd never listened to her conscience before, why start now?

Daniel was amazingly dexterous considering his altered state. While keeping her partially pinned down, he managed to release all six buttons on her (impressively tight, she thought - she filled it out rather nicely) leather vest, all the while softly kissing and nipping the sensitive skin of her neck. As he moved lower, Vala was very pleased she'd had the wisdom to wear nothing underneath.

As his lips and teeth and tongue continued to travel her exposed skin, Vala languidly trailed her free hand across his bare chest and down to the button-fly of his pants. She could just reach it and managed to tug the first few buttons free. Stretching, she found she could push the leather over his hips, just over the truly glorious curve of his ass. While she couldn't do much more from her current position - and for her life, she wouldn't stop Daniel from doing what he was doing - the view definitely enhanced the experience.

"Vala," Daniel whispered, and the sound was almost pained.

"Oh, Daniel," she murmured back, reaching out for him again.

"Vala," he said again, his voice a little clearer this time. He rested his forehead on her belly.

"Yes, darling?"

"Something just bit my left buttock."

"Turn over and I'll match it on the right."

Daniel sat back a little and looked her in the eyes. "There are no bugs on the ship."

"You'll come to your senses by the time we get to the ship," she protested. She was truly afraid he might. Or more to the point, that she might.

Daniel leaned in and kissed her passionately. "I'm beyond sense," he promised. "Past the point of no return."

"Well, in that case..." Vala pushed him back and held out her hand for him to help her up.

She didn't believe him for a moment, but she knew she owed him the chance to sober up. She could tell that damnable conscience he’d infected her with just wasn’t going to let her take advantage of the situation now that the moment had been broken. But if she was very lucky, he’d sober up and still find that this little escapade had gotten them past whatever hang-ups he had about being with her. If not, well, at least she’d had a little fun for once!

Sam strode back down the path, alert to her surroundings but feeling pretty good, all things considered. She'd cleaned up at the phi'kot table and made a clean getaway. All it took was sneaking the mickey she'd been served into the glasses of the gentlemen on either side of her at the table. Now she had enough local currency to buy the parts they needed. In the morning, she'd head to the market and they could finally get off this rock. She gave a passing thought to what would become of Jasec, but decided he'd conned or snuck his way out of worse messes.

As she approached the ship, something on the ground caught her eye. She approached cautiously and was relieved to see it was just Daniel's vest. She picked it up and went aboard, feeling sorry for what Vala must've had to go through to drag him back home on her own.

Sam was about to call out to Vala to let her know she'd made it back safely when she spotted Daniel's shirt strewn across a console. Glancing around, she followed a trail with her eyes. Daniel's boots and socks, followed by... was that Vala's vest?

Sighing, Sam tossed the vest she'd retrieved down with the rest of the discarded clothes and walked towards her quarters. On the way, she passed Vala's door - and was not surprised to see hanging from the entry console two pairs of leather pants.
